U.S. Peavey Club

I picked it up this morning and got home and did a once over. The finish has been stripped and a brown stain was applied. Quickly got a sanding pad to see what it would look like sanded and the stain will be coming off! It will have really dark grain lines, but that will look pretty nice I think. Took the pickguard off to see if I could find out why the guy said it didn't work, one of the wires was not connected. I might try and get to this tonight, does anybody know where I can find a wiring diagram for a Patriot.

There is a little bow in the neck, but I am hoping that I can straighten the neck. Need to find the correct tool, I am also going to Meridian on Monday, so I might just take the bass down there and drop it off at the service department for a setup and a once over. I think I definitely got the better end of the stick on this one! I am pleased and think I am going to have a nice bass with some work, which I'm looking forward to doing. The second pic I sanded just a little bit, so with just a little elbow grease I should be able to get it close to the original color.

Any suggestions on a finish? Kind of want to keep it natural, but wouldn't be afraid of trying a sunburst. Can you do a sunburst with an oil finish?

Thanks Tim. I was going to Meridian on Monday, but I was wanting to try to fix it myself. I am going on an all day fishing trip tomorrow, so I am about to go out and get that gear ready for tomorrow. I haven't looked that close into the wiring, but it looks as if one of the wires has broken, shouldn't be a hard fix. Do you have a wiring diagram for the patriot? I will be in touch later. Thanks again.

Hello. I have a Peavey Milestone II Bass from like 2001-ish???
It has been just fine for me. When I got it I wanted to learn bass a bit. Anyhow, I have been playing it alot more the last 2years. Anyhow shout out to a Milestone II......

Does anyone else have a Milstone II?

Sand it down to at least 400 grit. If you want to add color...first a coat of shellac, then add color, another coat of shellac, then lacquer.

Personally, I'd sand it down, grain fill, sand it back down, shellac it, add a light natural stain, shellac and then lacquer it--several coats. It would be a beautiful, glossy bass.

Will be a long shot as very few peavey guys are also into ibanez--- nice basses... Some great one - just a different cult

Stacatto.... Good to hear .... Most basses like this I just start 100% over.... Folks forget the urban myths for setup started in the 80s and 90s

I can't speak for anybody else, but, for me, the Peavey appeal has a couple of things to it, beyond just the quality of the instruments themselves.

I'll confess to a bit of jingoism and say that being Made in America is a significant part of it.

And, the other part is Peavey Customer Service. I've upgraded several of my Peaveys to the Millennium preamp. In doing so plus some issues with one B Quad 4 that I had, I've had several occasions to call and talk to Steve and other folks at Peavey. They have always been totally top-notch and responsive and that just increases the appeal of their instruments, to me.

In other words, it's not just the instruments themselves, it's also the brand. Ibanez may or may not make instruments of equal quality - I don't know because I've only ever tried one older Prestige model that a friend had (and it was nice, admittedly). But the Ibanez brand doesn't have nearly the appeal to me.

I can understand that. For me customer service has been such a very alien concept having rarely experienced any good cases of it. It's kind of made me take on all challenges of the instruments on my own and thus to me, my attachment never moves beyond the individual instrument. It's rare to find a personable and responsive company

Thinking about getting into the Millenniums... but I'm having trouble figuring out the difference between the non-MIA and MIA and the plus, etc. Did some searching and didn't find any clear answers. Any help?

Is the Millennium "BXP" the -only- non-MIA model?

My best resource so far is to compare ebay ads... it's frustrating.

Ebay really isn't a source for credible info... You're better going to Peavey.com and searching for the archived manuals.

USA Milleniums are one of the cooler under the radar basses.

American ones are a total different leage than the BXP... for a BXP you really need to watch after the generation and country of origin.. some are cool Jbass copies... some are less than stellar... they're designed for price buyers from big catalog houses.

Standard = Gotoh"ish" tuners and more "plain" finishes

Plus = Hipshot ultralight tuners and premium finishes (quilted tops, sunbursts etc)

It would be fair to say that a USA Millenium is in an equal caliber to USA Cirrus and many of my botique basses.... biggest design flaw is the necks commonly need to be shimmed.

Catagorically you'd be tough to find anyuone on this "club" or thread who'd say to buy a BXP over a USA Millenium

Sorry about the Itouch typing... I ordered a $$$$$$$$$$$$$ custom bass... just clearing space and fundraising... one of the guys I back asked me to play a specific bass type.

Up to now most of them are going to former trading pals and Private messages - the folks who are sending notes are cherry picking the best of the best.

Wishing I had my old storage space back and a check book to support my nutty Gear obsession.
