The micro-tilt is makes it really easy to set up the bass. The thing is, the neck ends up only contacting the body at the very top of the pocket and on the point of the adjustment screw :mad: I know people have added solid shims to eliminate them. I might try that with one of mine. I'm sure it would really improve the sound and sustain.

In situations like that, you look at the sellers join date, feedback # and % and read the FB. Some legitimate sellers won't touch online payment systems because of the horrid fees Paypal and the like charge.

Interesting, I don't really consider the neck on my '93 Foundation as 'thin' but it is very comfortable.:D If you like thin, try the neck on a Dyna :hyper:

And I have a couple of questions:

I need to adjust the tilt on my dyna, do I have to take these yummy sparkling new peavey strings all the way off, or can I just loosen them up a lot? I honestly don't know here as this will be the first time I've ever set my own neck here. And on that note, how can I keep that new string sound (well as long as possible)? Only thing I can think of is to wipe them down with rubbing alcohol periodically. Will that work or is there something better?

I agree- I never do Paypal, I just ask for a US postal money order. It shows up, I send the item off.

I think you just have to loosen the strings up so they're floppy and don't pull at all on the neck.

For the "new string sound", you can use something with alchohol in it... don't use anything with any kind of oils- meaning you should read some labels of stuff you want to use. Isopropyl alchohol smells too harsh for my taste, and I don't really want my strings to sound new anyway. I used to use Aqua-Velva on my strings, which made my case smell good! Now I don't use anything, I'd rather have that good mojo stank on 'em. :)

You can boil them, but you can only do that so many times before you begin to kill them, I think.

The strings on my Foundation are as dead as dead can get and I love em, though once I get it squared away there will be a new set going on it (and if anyone wants a short scale set of super dead strings let me know and I will pass em along). But I also love that new string 'twang' and to me it seems to fit this dyna bass rather well. So I'd like to keep them that way as long as possible. I don't mind the smell of rubbing alcohol so I will use that and remember to wipe my hands down before I play it.

Bring it up to Lakeland! I've done several of them now and they play fine. It would be a good idea to take the neck and strings off the first time to get any crud out of the pocket. It's not hard and doesn't take very long. Once that's done and the neck is adjusted it should be fine. It's not hard, I'll be glad to show you how I do it.

Howdy neighbor!! Sounds like a plan to me! I have nothing but members here and other online sources to do this baby and I am mechanically minded enough to not to mess it up beyond repair i think, but to have someone show me that first time would be super!! Not sure if you have Dyna or not but you can have free reign to test drive this baby. Its so sweet (even with the neck set for the past owners preferences)! :hyper:

Peaveys are great. They leave a lasting impression thats for sure. The T40 I bought on a whim back in the early 80s, I had such a love/hate relationship with it till I got rid of it (which I have learned since Ive been here was my lack of set up knowledge and not that fine axe) left such an impression on me that when I got back into bass thats all I wanted again was a peavey. ^_^

Oh yea, pics!!! Gotta see pics. ^_^ I owe pics of my Dyna here (or my thread stating when I got it) to show I got it. As was told to me, no pics, no bass. ... honest guys I do have this baby!! bear with me and pics will be coming but I give up trying to set a day, the more I set a time the more delayed I get. :p

Might as well join in and show off my latest snag from last month. A very, very, very early T-40 with the line tracing on the headstock going around the TRC. 6 digit serial number. Found this in a local pawn shop. Bought for $175.

I've had a T-20 (regret selling that one), An American bolt on mahogoney Cirrus (it was just too small for a big guy).

I'm buying an American Peavey Millienium though to go with my BXP (it was my first bass).

To this day I can distinctly remember how horribly the neck was set on my T40. The neck relief was so bad you could have cocked an arrow and shot with it and the action? Ok, I suppose I'm an odd one as I like the action on my basses rather high. I do a lot of hammer ons and pulls offs in my stuff and Ive just found a higher action works better for me. Anyway, the action was probably as high as it could go on that monster and between that and the relief and the W E I G H T (I had a real early model and I read on some T40 forum that the early ones were actually HEAVIER then the ones from the 80s).... well you get the idea. LOL But hey I could still play it, thanks to learning on that block of wood neck on my first bass. :p but I pawned it back at the pawn shop I got it from once in a cash pinch and decided to never get it back out. :crying: because of the grief I always had when I played it.

I still remember what mine looked like too (it was a natural wood but the woods ring pattern was very unique on it and it had no pick guard (but you could tell where it had originally come with one.... by the screw holes outlining it) and no route in the wood (or very well filled in) between the pups and it had a natural wood thumb rest). I swear Id know it if I ever saw it again. :cool:
