So I took my T-20 to my tech looks like someone removed some of the finish on the back maybe because of glue. Anyway they got the original urethane off and the paint is orange peeled a little and looks like they rattle canned a clear on it. He recommends a complete refinish. He said the color is a metallic red flake and that he can get the correct paint. Idk what to do. I like the bass and it's one I don't wanna ever sell so I thing I'm gonna do it.
I got the DiMarzio DP126 P&J pickup set installed in the B-Ninety and like them much better that the Basslines. About 2/3 the cost. Having the adjustable pole pieces really helps balance the strings and the sound has more is tighter and has more depth, whatever that means. Definitely doesn't sound like a Fender.

The poor finish is just on the back? If so, I'd leave it like it is. If it's the front, too, I'd still give it at least 6 months, to be really sure it's a permanent keeper, before I spent the money for a good refin. You can probably find another one, already in good condition, for what a good refin will cost. And then you'll have 2 basses!
On the subject of refinishing...I have done all the prep work and used auto body shops and done final sanding/polishing myself. If you're doing a common color or clear they will spray it when doing another job. Cost is normally minimal, about $25 in my area, as there is normally paint left in the spray gun. Had some really good results and some less than great. Prep is the key. Don't expect them to take care of any problems you leave.

Thanks mech. That's where I am with it. I don't want to spend 250-300 on a complete refinish on a bass I paid 249 for. The front is fine the back I think I'm gonna sand what little bit of bad clear or whatever off and try and buff it out and then maybe tape it and do a light seal on it. My father in law owns a sandblasting shop and sprays all kinds if things.
The front is totally fine so I think I'll just be extremely careful and wet sand lightly and then see where I am.
Ive heard stories on here about gooped finishes where the owner sanded out the goop, and still had enough finish left to buff and not have to refinish. i sincerely hope this is your case Medic, good luck.
My tech did a small spot where he wet sanded it and then out a compound in it and kinda buffed it a little and it looked ok. I would be happy with that.
What grit sand paper and my guy wet sanded that small spot is that what I should do. Also when I had the neck off I noticed there's no little metal piece for the neck tilt screw to hit. What should I use there.
I think my OCD took over on me for a bit. You are right mech I could buy another bass for what it would cost yo refin. I'm gonna lightly sand and buff and play the thing. Thanks for being the voice if reason.
So is 95 the last year of foundation? I found a fretless foundation on eBay 0895 serial number. Looks like 95 are these active?
Finally got to play the T40. I ran it thru my Ashdown Little Bastard and a 2x10. I love it! So many useful tones! And you can tell it's been played for 30+ years.... vintage tones galore! With both pups in single coil mode, it's very reminiscent of the Ric sound I remember back when I owned a couple.
i didnt think any foundations were active. also, they made foundation 2000s, and i thought the 2000 meant year 2000. i may be wrong though, and im pretty sure these were passive like all other foundations.
the foundation s came with an option for emg-like pickups for a few years (foundation s active model) but thats the only instance i know of an active foundation. and even these had a passive tone circuit.
So has anyone redone a contour case. Should I try recovering the inside or just cut out an insert for the bottom and put a strip of fabric along the top. Also should I try and remove the glue that's still in there?
