That white Dyna-Bass 5 on Ebay looks just like the Charcoal Grey one that I played the hell out of in bands in the late 80s and early 90s. The B string is good, not great. The neck is a dream come true. Tone is just what you'd expect, but on mine the "G" string was always weak compared to the other strings. They used the same "Super-Ferrite" pickups on the 5 string basses that they used on the 4 string basses and they weren't quite wide enough.

I bought an identical bass about 6 weeks ago. Put on a set of Lo-
rider nickels and since I did not have a truss wrench then took it to my luthier. He got the action really low!!! I was amazed how it setup so easily and this bass had sat around and not been touched for a decade.

After my new Slinky's were on for a few weeks, it's never gone out of tune!! I was able to adjust and set mine the way I like it very easily. Just a cool bass overall.

I wrote the guy in my area selling that T-40 about maybe doing a payment plan - he asked me what I had in mind. Unfortunately, we have a two year old, my wife is at home, and I'm a teacher - the budget is tight.

I said I could do $30ish a month. :crying:

Who knows? We'll see. I wouldn't take it, though. I'm sure he's selling with something in mind that he wants to get soon.

I'll probably just start socking that cash away to save for one.

OOh! Can I play too? I found this forum by accident, while looking for a truss rod cover for one of my T-40's. I currently have four T-40's, a Grind and even a few T-60's. I have been told that the first step to recovery is to admit I have a problem, but I don't see a problem, so I'm not admitting to anything. I'll post a "family photo" as soon as I get time to put them all in one room at one time.

Oh, and fourstringbliss, that guy with the T-40 is me. This is truly one small world, huh?:)

Its ok to have a Peavey problem ^_^ I am still trying to figure out after my love/hate relationship with a T40 I owned in the early 80s why that was the one bass I couldn't get out of my mind when I decided to pick up playing again. Needless to say I have 3 Peaveys now...well actually 4 now but I wont talk of the 4th one until its in my hands next month.... ;) And I'm past due for updated brood pictures LOL

I was curious about that Sunburst on eBay right now (the one pictured above). Is that really a factory option? I have never seen a Sunburst T40 before (tobacco burst yes, sunburst no). Its breathtaking but is it really factory? I have also seen a solid red one sell on the bay recently and there is a cream colored T40 up right now..... I thought it was natural/tobacco burst/black/red? and one other?

Also on T40 cases..does anyone know if there were two interior padding options for them? I have seen them with the traditional brown/red velvet interiors and I've seen others that are the gray plastic with gray foam in key areas and thats it. Is that factory also or something someone did after the fact? (why would someone strip the lining out of one anyway?)

The black one should be here in 2 or 3 weeks pending paypal waiting periods and shipping. The fretless was a prototype that Jerry (the seller) bought from Chip Todd. It maybe the first(if not one of the very early ones) bass with the blade pickups. Now I just have to wait - I think I'm starting to know how junkies feel when they can't score.

Looking at the edges, it looks like a spray stain was added over a blonde ash body. I refinish guitars as a hobby (passion) and recognize the technique. There are a few areas where it looks as if the stain or paint didn't adhere to the original finish too well (didn't scuff the gloss before spraying over it). I may be wrong about that, though.

I have four T-40's and two T-60's in natural finish and would like to do something like that, but I can't bring myself to do it to a guitar with the original finish in good condition. If I find one with a ruined finish though, that's fair game!

It's a very small world!! It's great to find another Northwest TB'er! Man! Four T-40's? I'm guessing you like them? :D

There were, in fact, two case interiors for Peavey's molded case. The plush lined one came with the T40, T45 and early Dynas . The T20s and early Foundations came without the plush lining and just blocks of foam. Extremely rugged cases, but a little on the 'thick' side for storing, lol!
