Ahh that answers my question about that sunburst then. It is very pretty though. Mmmm I wonder if the seller or final bidder is going to know.
And you refinish basses as a hobby?
I would really like to talk with you about how to refinish or touch up a finish if thats ok. 
I am a collector of things and I know originality can make or break the value of the item. I would assume that holds true for guitars as well. Does refinishing original color or other color or toughing up a finish deter from the axes value? I have a couple that could use some help here and I'd love to know whether fixing them would be ok or just let them be.

And having matching pairs works too.
I ran the serial number through on my Foundation 5er and its the same year as my Foundation4 They are both '92s (and I know I said the wrong year on the 4 on some thread recently..oops)..and the same color...guess when I said they'd be the Twins I was closer then I thought.

That doesn't look like an original coat. Would there be ANYWAY I could do that to MY t-40 or is that just not even worth it...There seems to be some areas of waer where the colors of the stain are a little lessened. It would be nice to totally re-stain her
Isn't /he/ a beauty? My axes are boys Which brings up something interesting. I am female...my axes I refer to as male, (as well as my cars). I noticed basses referred to as she a lot here. I would assume by their male players. I gather the 'gender' of the bass is determined by the gender of the player.... and I don't know this is going...just babbling I guess. LOL

I'm a male and I must be a wimp. I would love to have a T-40 but the weight of those axes just gets the best of me.
I recently bought my Millennium Plus 4, but the only amp I've played it through is my crappy Behringer "300w" combo amp. I took it to Guitar Center today to try out some amps, and the first one staring me in the face is a Mark Bass 210 combo - that should be good enough!!
WOW! This is one nice sounding bass! I A/B'd it against a lot of basses. It either sounds better, plays better, or sounds and plays better than anything I tried. I liked the sound of the Warwick Thumb J/J and the Stingrays that I tried, but I liked the way the Plus 4 played better. I liked both the feel and sound of the Plus 4 better than any of the Fender Jazz basses I played.

Well I am too actually. LOL Between the weight of it and the neck was just a pig. NOT because theres anything wrong with them design wise. It was because at the time I didn't know how to adjust the truss rod and bridge so it was a real pig to play. Those were the two reasons why I parted with it.
But I'm older, wiser now (least I'd like to think so). I realize the neck/action was not its fault and there are straps out there that help with brute heavy axes now so its all good. I know how to do neck/action. Have a bit of brains on getting the right strap (I used to think a strap was a strap you know LOL shows how much I didn't know)...and I just can't get it out of my head how awesome a T40 is going to be set and strapped right. The sound range on it is what I just can't get out of my head and I am so pumped about getting my hands on one set the right way

It depends on the buyer and whether it's 'original' or 'cool' that matters most. I refinish guitars that have been damaged beyond reasonable repair. My last refinish was a 1975 Gibson G-3 bass. It had been painted purple and blue by the previous owner. There was nothing short of a complete refinish to save that. It was supposed to be black and it's black again. It went from this:

Peavey T-series guitars and basses are easy to refinish. To get that sunburst effect, I would completely disassemble it, scuff the finish completely with about 400 to 600 grit, then clean everything with compressed air and a tack cloth.
Spray the desired pattern on the body with a translucent spray stain, sand lightly again to remove splotches and then put clearcoat over everything. You might want to try it on something that doesn't matter first, like a Jay Turdser that you can just use for a rock bat or canoe paddle if it doesn't work out.
Today, I am priming a Aria "the Cat" bass that was soooo trashed. You don't even want to see that one yet!
I've got some that are 4" and padded but that T-40 was still a bit much for me to hang around my neck for too long. Just to let you know, I ain't a small guy either...

I do love the tone that you can get out of them and I hope that the one that you bring into your fold is everything that you are looking for. As for me, I'll just stick with my Millennium and Cirrus...

I had made an offer on one downstairs but was looking at this other one as well. I knew I didn't stand much chance at the one here so I contacted the seller of the other one. Did some talking and well....its a done deal.
Course I went from a natural wood '79 to a Tobacco Burst '85 but I don't care. Actually I've heard the 80s ones were lighter? Is that true? That won't hurt my feelings any..or shoulder..or back...
I had a 4 inch leather strap for my original T40.. but no padding.. I'm 5'10" and was a bit underweight back then...was 115 pounds...my god that thing was in total control when I tried to play it standing up.
I have a 3 inch leather padded strap right now but I can't see that working so I'm eye balling a 'slide X strap' thingy...its like a double strap. Its made specifically for heavy axes and disperses the weight evenly. Its 2 inch nylon though and I don't know how that will take the weigh of the 'tone monster'
And yea yea I know ... pictures....just like I owe fresh pics of the Dyna and Foundation5er. The best I have are the auctions pics right now, take it or leave it. ^_^ sorry.

And I was looking at a comfort strap but then I ran across the slider strap. It goes around your back, over both shoulders and then hooks to the bass. Its a really cool idea. Its the 2 inch wide nylon that I'm not so sure about. Its listed as a 'medium' I don't know if thats its size or its weight allowance. Size wise thats fine for me but weight...hope the T40 fits in its weight class.

I passed up a black Dyna 5er that would have been a perfect match to my Dyna 4 for that. But T40 prices are getting to the point I figured I had better grab one now or forever hold my peace. And there was just something about that one, I dunno..mojo? Something about it that just kept drawing me to it for some reason. ^_^

While digging through all of my Peavey stuff yesterday, to set up for the "family photo", I came across something that I had forgotten about. I have two T-40's with toaster pickups; one is a 1979 and the other is an early 1980. the 1980 has a rosewood fingerboard and the 1979 has maple, all else is the same. I had forgotten about that. Prior to buying that T-40, I had never seen a rosewood fingerboard on a natural finish T-series guitar before. I have had a black and a burst T-40 with rosewood, just never natural finish. Anyone else had one of these?
Nice one StarscreamG1. You got a good price too. I've seen beat up natural body T-40's start at 400 USD + shipping.
Last month on eBay there was a dead mint BLACK T40 with a rosewood fretboard in its OHSC!
THAT was my dream T40 through and through....lets not discuss what it ended at $$$$ 
You know there are a couple of teeny things about Peavey basses I'm so-so on really. The maple fretboards that like almost all of them have and the Pbass like body style. I got over my hang up with Fenders thanks to this board (the Pbass body style being part of it) and I have no problem at all with it now. And I finally gave up on being luke warm on the maple fretboards.
I think I will always prefer a rosewood fretboard -- they are softer/smoother to me, and just nicer looking in my opinion. But I could care less now about either when it comes to a Peavey Bass (the softer/smoother issue is that minor). Their necks and sound and feel and everything else makes those two stupid hangups inconsequential. But yea buddy, if I could have gotten money up, that rosewood and black T40 would have been mine so fast and buried with me as far as I'm concerned. LOLThis brings me to an interesting question for all here; Peaveys are THE bass for me. I have come to realize that and accept it with open arms. Yet I just admitted a couple of things about them that I'm neutral on. Are there any of you Peavey owners out here that as much as you love 'em, have a thing or two about them that you are so-so on?

No one was bidding on that one and I'm pretty sure it was because of the nut. My law suit lespaul had a nut damaged like that for years before I finally got it replaced. I didn't like that bit of 'mojo' on it but it was no biggie. It holds the string, who cares. LOL (though I did check for a replacement nut before I decided to negotiate for it LOL)
But I had considered letting that one pass banking on the seller relisting at a lower price. Though I'm not much of a gambler and like I said, there was just /something/ about /that/ particular one that kept drawing me to it. I can't explain it. I really wanted a mint one ('79) in OHSC but those are already out of what I can scrape up right now so I was willing to take anything as long as the electronics were original and it was at least an (on a scale of 1-10) 8 in condition. The seller also gave me a generous payment extension and that made it even sweeter (and clenched the deal).
With some cleaning and polishing I think that one will be just awesome when I'm done. I am not sure about the rash on the back of the bottom of the body though. Not sure if I should just leave it or touch it up...Opinions?
