I have been thinking about getting a Peavey Dyna lately with the super Ferrite pickups. I already have a foundation that I love and was wondering how similar the two are?I love the neck on the foundation and was wondering if its the same on the Dyna? I know the Dyna is active but i was wondering how similar or different the tone is?
Also my foundation is wired V/V/tone is that normal?
Your wiring is normal.
The Early Dyna is an active/passive bass. In active mode it is basically a Foundation with a 3-band EQ. In passive mode it is like a Foundation with no tone control and full treble up. The neck and body are just like the Foundation, though the connection is with inserts and bolts not screws. If my memory serves me, it is Volume and pan not two volumes.
The second gen Dyna is also active passive with a three band, but the bridgemost tone control is concentric, the bottom being a passive tone control. The pickups are a completely different design then the foundation. I personally found this bass useable in active mode, but the tone was lacking passively. Since I generally prefer passive basses this just wasn't my thing.
Finally the Dyna-Unity was a neck through active bass with P-J configured pickups and a three-band eq. These are a less common animal that I have played in shops, but never really been able to do a full on test. I had a good impression, but I still prefer passives.
PS- so here i go spouting off about all the different things I know about Dyna basses, and all you were interested in was the first gen. I guess my ego got the best of me again.
