I also thought the fb looked like not ebony. But, it does have black streaks and most ebony is not solid black, so I'm not sure about that.

I didn't notice the peghead looking odd. I just went back to GC Used to look at their picture again and the bass is gone! Did somebody here snake it out from under me?!?!

I think the peghead veneer is Carbon Fiber, like the Cirrus basses. Seeing as the TL's are basically the precursor to the Cirrus, makes sense.

Yes, looks to someone's tried to make it a fretless and put heat on the frets to loosen them. Heat damaged the finish around the fret ends. May have removed a few and put them back after some remorse. It's a fixable bass but it just nasty. Probably cost you some bucks to have everything fixed right and the neck refinished.

Well, GC came through after all. The guy I was talking to last week about the TL-Six finally responded to my last email after 2 or 3 days of silence. I had asked for pics of the hardshell case. When he finally sent them I told him the bass was no longer showing on the website and I had assumed it sold. He said it is still there and he didn't know why it wasn't showing on the site any more.

So, I went ahead and bought it. It looks to be in really good shape except for whatever is going on with those frets. The total for shipping was only about $10, so I figured it is worth the $10 to get it in my hands and evaluate it myself. If I don't like it, I will return it to my local GC and only be out $10. If it's as good as the pics look, and it really does have a custom fretboard wood (which it looks like it does), then it might be a cool rarity.

And if it turns out to be a keeper, then I probably will try to sell my Mill 5 Plus to offset the cost.

I really don't think the frets have been messed with, StuartV, it's just the paint turning loose. A little sanding and touch up and there you are! Here's a pic of one of my Sarzo's from the same era and it's frets have never been messed with except for taking care of a little fret sprout. One of my TL-5s is similar to the pics you posted but this one was easier to get to.

Cool. Thanks for the pic, mech. I'm definitely excited to get to try it out for pretty much no risk. Too bad it's not coming sooner. I'll probably get it Thursday or Friday. I have a gig Friday night. But, I don't think even 1 full day is enough time to adapt to it and use it Friday night. I have only been playing my 4s and 5s. Hmmm.... Maybe I should practice every day this week with my Cirrus 6 so I can feel comfortable to play the TL Friday night. Hmmmm..... Not a bad problem to have. :-)

Guys,
I have an opportunity to buy a Foundation S but wanted to confirm something before I commit. Is the body of a painted Foundation S made of Poplar? I'm aware of other Foundations being maple or ash if stained/satin and poplar when painted, this bass is painted black, but the manual for the "S" on Peavey's site isn't exactly clear.

If the body is in nice shape it's not a big deal, but if the finish is bad, knowing it's poplar lets me know if my stain choices are limited....I might just go natural with poly or paint black again.

Has anyone ever replaced the pickups in their Forum with the active VLFs? I really like mine, but I'm thinking of making that bass passive. One of the biggest issues is finding a replacement that fits in that cavity without leaving unsightly gaps or routing it any bigger.

I'm open to suggestions.

Hi,VFL pick ups are passive and the Forum 95 has an active 18v preamp,think they were only made in white with one pick up like a musicman.
I,ve got one and if you look left to the picture you can see some of it.

because of budget issues i bought a mid eighties Foundation in a rare metallic blue. all original. i've really come to like this bass. the neck is nice and thin and it's pretty well balanced. the PUPS are punchy but i wish they gave a lil more bottom end chunck. regardless, i like it! why did the Foundation never take off in popularity?

TL-Six reported to be waiting on my front door step!! LOL

I won't play it tonight. Well, I PROBABLY won't play it tonight. But, I am definitely running home from work to bring it inside and get in some quality pre-gig fondling before my g/f arrives. And maybe after she arrives, too, though I'm not committing myself to the TL-Six at that point. Ha ha!
