Hey Foundation people according to the manuals I can find:
The earliest Foundations are made from "finest maple" or "southern ash"
later ones (like the 86 Foundation S I'm curious about) are made from "finest select hardwoods"
Any word on what that "finest select hardwood" is? It's an ugly scratched up paint job and I would interested in sanding it so long as it's not poplar or something equally weak and blah.

Email peavey with the serial number and ask them. They told me the month and year of my foundation as well as body wood.
EDIT: It took a while for them to get back to me but they did and we're quite nice about it.

I got the Foundation S. it looked like hell in the pics and was sold AS-IS/for parts not working, but the tester must have had a bad cable because this plays flawlessly and sounds like well focused thunder after a new set of strings and some quick adjusts. it was covered with filth and scuzz but it cleaned up QUITE NICE. there will be no sanding this one. I'm a fan

It was mine. Had it since Day 1. Only one other that I know of in Koa, the rest were destined to stay in the 80's-90's

I'd love to get my hands on it. The "D" tuner was stock from the factory. Here's a clip from the manual. Sounds like they should have given you a discount..

Haven't seen many with the black painted fretboard before. I already ordered a black pickguard and some Labella black tapewounds for it and I am going to get some black hardware and totally black it out. Speaking of which, any idea where I can get a black bridge and tuners for it or anybody looking to trade?

No. There is no passive mode on Mills. Even the pickups are active, a la EMG pickups. If your battery dies, may God have mercy on your soul.

LOL. Thanks Nic. I am going to be gigging this bass so I guess I'll be changing out batteries on a regular basis.
Change them every 3-4 months on my Bongo so I'll just do them both at the same time.

Just be sure to unplug the bass whenever you're not using it. Unless the wiring has been messed with, unplugging will deactivate the battery, leading to much longer life.

I didn't have to swap batteries in any of my Mills very often. You'll start getting a weaker signal, maybe distortion when they start dying.
