Well it's official, I'm now an 80s Peavey Glutton. I just picked up another cheap-butt bass, but it has beauty and grace lying beneath it's exterior. A couple weeks ago I bought a gorgeous Foundation S with Bartolinis for $135 today this came in the mail from eBay for $67 with a solid high grade mahogany body, and although the listing stated a "bent neck" it looks to me like it will be perfect after a few adjustments.
I'm going to install a Seymour Duncan Stingray pickup in it even though I'm sure that could ruffle some feathers around here. I never understood the one single coil thing; I hate buzz and I love the sound of a beefy humbucker.

Really, twice what I paid for it!? Yippee-a-de-doo-da! so I could make a 67 dollar profit after listing it, selling it, packing it so I would maybe have enough money to buy a much WORSE bass that will not already have great a routing point right where I want it in an awesome hardwood body that will take a simple finish very quickly.
And then I would have to spend hours looking for a new crummy bass, waiting for it to arrive, hope it's decent enough to use, attempt a much more difficult finish job, all for a sucky bass I won't like?? ummm no.

That would be awesome, but I'm a cheapie, and I already have all the parts to do my proposed mod.What you really need to do is find a T-40 PU and a couple of "P" knobs.
I've also noticed that on Peavey basses from this period the neck alignment tends to be poor. I have a theory that Peavey knew this, and it's why they put the Schaller roller bridge on their higher end models so you could adjust the spacing after it's all put together.
On both this bass and my foundation fretless, the strings are clearly not centered on the neck at the 21st fret.
Anyhow I luckily had an old Schaller roller bridge hanging around. here is the mockup.

The necks can sometimes shift in the pockets and it's easy to realign them. Loosen the strings a few turns, loosen the neck bolts a few turns, press the neck sideways the direction it needs to go, check the string margin and re-tighten the bolts. You may need to tighten the strings on the side it needs to move toward in order to hold it in place.
I tried, it seemed to do little. I ended up cutting a credit card piece into the pocket on the E string side to force it a little better.
I didn't take a before pic, but the E string was even closer to the edge before.
Again, A roller bridge would fix it. Or just careful placement of a different cheap bridge with mounting holes that don't match this one.

I have no problems with you modding that piece. All systems go and have fun!
Just a comment .....I don't see the same issues with Peavey US necks that you do. I will say that poor bass looks like it's been rode hard and put up wet....used and abused likely. In general I'm looking for minty versions of Peavey basses and every one I've bought so far has needed little or no adjustment to get a good set up. I believe that the Peavey neck/bridge design is fine even up to the 90's single piece necks.
There are some other "rescue" guys on here that do fix abused Peaveys and I'm sure they have stories to tell. The ones I've read are almost always able to get things tweaked and worked out fine. So the prognosis is good. I think you will have a nice bass when done. Keep us posted on the project.

Things have been hectic workwise here in Scotland but the clan has expanded again. Seeing how scarce
some Peaveys are in the UK I got a surprise when this fella turned up.

@DanAdams ...I remember that one. I have come across a 2nd model Foundation like yours with that problem. I agree, something was off with the router program. Ended up plugging the screw holes in the neck and re-drilling. I've not seen that type of problem on other Peavey models.
On this specific foundation the problem seems less like bad routes or neck mounting, but rather that the bridge was attached to far to the left. I believe this based on how the strings pass over the pickups. you can see the symmetry with the pickup mounting screws, so it looks as though the neck and pickups would be just perfect if the bridge was nudged over a bit.
Just a friendly heads up. There is a Dynabass Unity on Musicgoround.com for $199. If I weren't allergic to four strings, I'd be on that bass like white on rice.

I should have posted and joined the Peavey club a long time ago... But never quite got around to it. I did start the DynaBass club though.
Anyway...
The wall of Peavey is complete. From left to right:
1984 Fury - My most recent acquisition. Ash body, maple neck. First gen was old T-20 renamed. Second gen became a true P type bass. I accidentaly bought it in Reno last week, and after tuning it up a bit, I'm falling deeply in love with this thing! It ALMOST has a Rickenbacker sound.
1989 DynaBass - The first bass I bought was a black DynaBass in 1991. It got stolen in 2000. I had pined for another for a long while, and found "Red" for sale on The TalkBass forum in 2008ish. I LOVE that beast!!!
1998 Fury - A fine P bass for less than a Fender. It's not as "cool" as having a real Precision Bass... But then, I was never cool.
2011 Millenium AC 5 String - One of my old bands was having a reunion, and I played mostly 5 string on our songs. Problem was... I no longer had a 5er. I found this for a bargain. Not their top of the line model, but it does have the same electronics and pickups of their more expensive Cirrus bass... Which I wants btw.
So, how many Peaveys does one have to own to become a Peavey collector???
