Just put a new EMG Geezer Butler pickup in my Fury and had Chandler make up a new cream/black/cream pickguard. Haven't yet tried the Raven Labs preamp with the GZR but will over the next weeks. Sounds great and looks sharp!

Hat trick!!! The ones on the outside are poplar and I'm pretty sure the center one is plain jane maple. It's some heavier and has no sign the greenish tint. I have a fourth loaded sunburst poplar body and don't know what to do with it yet. All are strung BEAD and the PUs are wired series with the variable humbucker tap.

@Mr. Business I also love my Forum. It's a bit of a parts bass at this point. It has a p/j forum neck on it now that I traded the original neck for that had been defretted. This nexk is skinnier like the Furys. I changed the pickup to a Chi-Sonic humbucker with a series/split/parellel switch. I got a Sarzo pickup a while back that I'm goning to put in it at some point. I also need to make a new pickguard for it, because the current one is all cracked up. I'm thinking of going for a Birdsong kind of vibe for it.

I bet the chi-sonic is sweet! I did a darkstar(kinda similar to chi) in a P bass and it's my #1. I'm kinda a P bass guy, but love me some forums. I kinda think of them as working/poor mans modulus funk bass, but with a wood neck. When I searched tb I could barely find any forum threads. I did find your bueller thread from 2009 and asked to join your club of 2 now. Ha ha!

Hey peavey pros. in my travels it seems though the Peavey truss rod control design of the eighties is not ideal.
I seem to have encountered more busted rods or nuts than usual on Peavey basses. Is there special precautions I should take before tightening?
should I remove the nut and add a washer first? WD40? something else? thanks.

I remove the nut on all that pass through my hands and lube the inside threads from the base with a very small amount of Vaseline on a toothpick. Also put a dab on the flat base of the nut and wipe most of it off leaving a very thin coating. Don't put any on the rod. When the nut is put on any excess will come out the top of the nut and can be wiped off. Any type of thin oil is a no no. A washer may or may not be necessary.

Most broken truss rods are due to rust on the steel rod threads increasing friction or the end of the rod being bent by an oversize socket being jammed on the nut. The rod breaks when the nut reaches the bend and can't travel any further.

I also use vaseline. Does the trick very nicely, and haven't had an issue with any truss rod I've owned.

Also, loosen before tightening. That way if it's already maxed out you won't risk damage.

@Mr. Business Haha! Everytime I google Forums that post shows up because they're not very common. I like the Chi, but it is much brighter than I expected it to be, less output than I'm used to, and unusable live in series or parallel. There's a 50% or more drop in volume when I switch it away from single coil. And, it gets more nasally/honky in brightness. I think they discontinued the humbucker version because of that. I'm still very interested in a Darkstar. The plus side, is they fit the Forum pickup cavity with no modification. I've also read the single coil only Chis have more bottom end/are closer to the Darkstar sound.

Nice you use the standard .135 B thru D strings from a 5 string set?
