How's $11??

Just generic China I take it? Was peavey using the same source back then? $11 for a whole set brand new has me wondering if they might be a serious downgrade or not. I would want it to stay in tune sirsam22 might be hooking me up with tuners from his. One of the ones on my foundation is a bit stiff, but still works. It is a later 90s like the one I posted missing the gear and post, but I may have low balled the guy too low and pissed him off.

This is the last generation fury with the lower grade hardware and single piece D neck. As far as the electronics, I don't know about CTS pots but I believe it is the 5 wire pup, I don't think that changed. The electronics on mine are solid and quiet. Some say the pup is not as hot but mine is hotter than any Fender I've owned. Grinds like a mofo. The only thing I'd watch out for on these is the neck, can be not as stable as the earlier 2 piece and some have noted the ski bump...but with the microtilt I believe you can get things squared away with a decent setup unless the neck is totally twisted....which I have never seen.

What do you consider the later ones that have the mim fender style no cover truss rod holes? Is the neck a different profile? The bridge and tuners appear to be the same on both versions. Now I'm really bummed I couldn't snag the pinstripe with case for $125. But if the pickup is at least decent enough to not scream "upgrade me", I'm good, I like grindy, but not at the expense of low end. The seller near me with the bass missing the truss rod cover says his is 1992, the one I pictured above is claimed 1993, but it is a bid sale so it may be out of the question.

Neck wise, is this style

much of a step down from the 92 style with the lp truss rod, or am I splitting hairs at that point? Apparently after the pinstripe script logos the really nice 5 wire pickup and CTS pots went away, but does anyone know if the last version with the lp truss rod but cheaper tuners, has better electronics than the later 90s one with 4mm no cover truss rod. Because I'm pretty broke still, and we got screwed out of half our pay at the last gig, a bass not needing a pickup upgrade is a good part of my decision if the necks are more or less the same quality.

Had another look. Pots are marked SH A250K & SH B250K.

The 4 wires I saw when tilting PG to the side was wrong,I mistaken a loop for 2 wires.

Do you mean it is the type with one wire from each coil, and a short jumper wire between the 2 in series? Would those wires happen to be very thin and red and blue? Or is it with the fatter white and black 4 wire arrangement? (I thought I saw a pic of a 4 wire here but it might have been a different thread entirely because I went back a few pages and didn't see it.)

@ubernator I thought those were the same necks based on the hardware but could be wrong. The earlier neck is two piece with no board....you can look at the side of the neck to see if there is a board seam or look directly on the top and you can see the two piece seam down the middle if it is the older one. The older one is more C shaped and the newer one much slimmer an D shaped.

This was the era when Peavey was making a lot of changes on the fly, especially with hardware so there are some variations year to year.

@kodiakblair .....Son of a gun! All the way across the pond. That looks great!!! Beware..... if you play it you'll have to have one. That's the same bridge @tuBass used for his conversion that started my wheels turning. He used a Wilkinson(?) or Kahler(?) four string base with five saddles and cut an opening in the bottom of the T-40 base plate to clear.

That is very promising if that is the original electronics, I will ask the seller with the 92 nearby if he can take a pic of the wiring.

I prefer the slimmer neck, I don't remember mine being 2pc, but it was over 20 yrs ago. I rather have the board anyway, as long as it is maple.

Now I just hope this guy accepts my offer, which won't be a low ball thats for sure.

Mine are not for sale. I always considered these working/poor man's modulus, but with a wood neck. The g bass had a graphite neck making it much closer to the mod. They are def in the active mm and mod tone camp. SUPER HOT pups in these bad boys! I highly recommend one if you can find it.
