Ronnie, your bridge pic shows a narrower baseplate than what I have on two of mine.
My pics are of my 1993 white Fury and 1993 cherry Foundation, the baseplates are wider than the width of the saddles by a fair amount.

Now I understand. I've seen that bridge but don't have anything with it. Finding something with a wider baseplate will be tough. Have you tried shifting the neck?

The baseplate is 3-3/8" wide, so to be wider I think that leaves G&L, Musicman and maybe Hipshot Type B.
Yeah, I gave the neck shift thing a shot, but that bass was a one owner bass owned by a young lady who got it new in 1993 when she was about 12, never took off or loosened the neck or touched anything really.
The holes in the body and the neck are pretty virgin and when I loosened and wiggled and re-tightened it ended up exactly the same.
The neck pocket is fairly tight, which is great.
The neck and the pickup line up well, the bridge just got installed a little bit off center to the E side.
It's not really a problem, the bass plays fine, I am just picky about things being straight/square, I am one of those people who has to straighten crooked pictures on the wall and has to close doors and drawers and turn off lights.

Hello, Gents! I figured it was high time that I shared my latest acquisition with the TB community, and this is the right place to do it and on the right page number! 420! What a coincidence! ;) Haven't been active on this page in a while except for research. The URL for the photo on my fb page is below.

So I bought a '99-02 Cirrus with a walnut body and bubinga on top, plus it has the wood knobs! It's my second Cirrus. My first is an '09 red finished 5 string fretless which I absolutely love!

Cheers!

Hey 80s Peavey Pros!
I'm thinking of going this direction with my Patriot.
IMG_8354.jpg

I'm new to the whole T series Pickup thing, and I just broke down my parts T40 (need parts? talk to me)
1- Which Pickup (neck or bridge) do you think would sound better in this position? Is there a difference? I assumed they are labeled N and B on the backs for a reason, but the resistance measurements are close to identical.
2- With this pickup and a Vol / push pull DPDT which configuration would give me the most useable sounds. (I prefer punchy bright growly P bass and MM sounds over smoother J bass and Ric tones)
3- Any other advice or notes about this idea? I'm not into the 'knob at 70%' T series thing.

I like it!
1. The pickups are the same internally. The only difference is at the end of the cable for the bridge to go to the phase switch.
2. That would give you HB or SC with tone control. Plenty of tonal options.
3. If you can, mount the PU to the pickguard instead of using the ring. Looks much cleaner to me and exposes more of the PU so it's a good thumb rest.

I Wish I could. I already cut out for a wider MM style pickup below where the pickup sits in the picture. If I had it to do again I would absolutely do it that way. I did it outside the original pickgaurd to hit the MM sweet spot.
DANGIT. I do like a good thumb rest right in that spot. It's just another problem to solve :)
Thanks for the tips.

Cut a new pickguard that extends further towards the bridge, fully surrounding the pickup cavity. Then suspend the T40 pickup from that pickguard. I'm with @mech, skip the ring. And man, those T40 pickups sound huge!

Anyone who has owned or played the Forum 5 able to comment on their sound and playability (paging @Dr. Cheese )? I'm looking to get a cheap 5er, and these caught my eyes. The consensus makes it sound like they're very heavy, but are in a similar tonal range to a Music Man. I can get down with the specs (35", 12" radius, 1.8" nut), certainly.

Wish me luck, saw what appeared to be a fury being offered at a very fair price (among those wanting $235-250+), pic was blurry but I sent an email expressing my interest.

Say I get lucky and snag it, is the P pickup in those (looks like a script logo) at least significantly better than what came in the milestone II? It has been so long since I had a fury, I can't remember, but I do remember at the price point the P fury didn't have premium electronics. I just finally installed my QP in the milestone II, the origonal pickup looks identical to what came with my MIK squier II e series. Hopefully the fury stock pickup is better. But here I am counting chickens. It is still more than 3x what I paid for my foundation, but is within my wheelhouse for what I am willing to plop for a fury, and the maple neck I want.

Hoping! I would probably keep the milestone II either way, I bonded. Can't hurt to have an extra P around.

@ubernator ......The pointy peghead, script, pinstripe Furys have a 5 wire fully shielded PU that was designed by Jim DeCola and made in Meridian. Should have CTS pots and Switchcraft jack. 90s models will have import controls but I've had no trouble with those. I like the 80s 5 wire PU better than the 90s models that have a two wire Korean OEM. The Korean OEM missed the mark a taste but is still good, IMO. I'm not familiar with the Milestone II's PU but it was bottom of the line and probably has a Chinese PU. I've changed PUs in my 80s/90s Furys to Quarter Pounders, Schaller, EMG, DiMarzio, '62 RI, Who Flung Dung, etc, but always end up going back to the originals. Haven't wanted to spend the $$$ to experiment with the really high buck PUs available. I have lucked up and found a couple of 80s Fury PUs for sale and put them in my 90s models.

I have one and I can confirm all the points you have heard about this bass.I have 2 T40's that are lighter than the Forum5.That said, they do play and sound really good.

Thanks, I might have spoke too soon, ad was 5 days old (6 now) and no reply yet. Still hoping.

As for my milestone II, I am pretty sure it is an older MIK version, and I wouldn't doubt it if the pickup was from the same OEM as my old squier II, same red/blue wires, magnet bars etc... It is a useable bargain basement pickup from the days before MIK was considered higher end, early 90s at the latest. The one on my squier II was a defect, I had to flip one half to cancel hum.

Now I hope I get that fury, sounds like I wouldn't have to change a thing. But alas, no reply yet. It looked like it had different knobs on it, but that Doesent mean anything, knobs are easily interchangeable.

What is the 5th wire on a p pickup for?

Found this at a pawn shop. I was looking it over and heard a creak and noticed there was a little movement in the neck pocket. The owner wasn't there or I would've asked if I could try and tighten the screws to see if this would fix the problem. They want $139 for it, do y'all think this is a good deal if the neck isn't a problem? Any idea of what kind of wood is under the paint? If I got it, I would more than likely refinish it.
