The black fury is an '87 and the absolute most playable bass I own. Installed a GZR-P and it just sings. Just finished peeling the pickguard plastic off the red fury. The T40 is a complete resto. I wanted to maintain some vintage mojo so I had the neck completely refretted and resprayed and blended into the headstock, finished the body in auto laquer and only sanded to 500 grit to give it a texturized effect. Body has a few tiny nicks, etc. from being moved around. New metal pup rings were made and I had all wiring and pots replaced. You can run the pups in himbucking mode with the tone all the way up by pulling the knobs out. Will probably be selling the t40 and the foundation is up for sale if anyone is interested!

Is that red fury a 94?

Keeping the furies and that $80 project foundation?

It might have been someone else who just posted that the other day, I assumes it was you when I was looking at the pics and the pics for that black foundation that cost $80 and needed strings, tree and a cleanup, were right there with your pics.

So you must be a P guy I take it. 94 fury was my first peavey, got it from my friend who got it in 94, around 96/97 and sold it 98/99 for the same $100 but threw in my aria zz guitar hard case which I modified to fit the peavey. In hindsight, HUGE mistake. The 94 had a headstock shape that I like the most.

I still need a peavey with that shape stock, I have a pinstripe, a rounded 92/93 and a post 95 like your red sparkle foundation.

What makes the most sense for my collection would be a SF foundation, since I already have 2 Furies and a vfl foundation like yours. So that hole is priority, it being a 94 style headstock is secondary. When money is better, I would consider a 94 fury as a 3rd fury, but that is just sentimental/cosmetic and not practical. SF foundation is practical. Wish the one I have eyes on was more reasonable, he wants $100 more than @lowplaces wants for his pinstripe, and the pinstripe is worth more than the 94ish "crafted" ones like what I am seeing. And I don't even know the year for sure and it might have even be the later headstock since the pics are blurry.

People Google an instrument and the first thing they see is Reverb ads. A lot of Reverb sellers price their instruments High knowing that someone will finally make an offer for what they actually need to get for it.

I've had guys that know I play ask me what a guitar's worth and more often than not after I tell them they'll say "but on eBay they are this much". Then I have to explain to them how to do a search and then show them how to look at the completed listings and see what they actually sold for. Which is usually pretty close to what I told them in the first place. It's usually a Buy It Now price they are referring to.

Yep, but unfortunately (for buyers) more and more peaveys complete on eBay for way too much. I have seen a few furys go $300+ and the formerly closer to $100 average has climbed closer to $200. Foundations a tad higher. All it takes is a few suckers who don't realize these were only around $200-250 new, to start the trend of rising prices.

Didn't T-40s go for $150-200 used only 5 years ago? Now they are $500 the fury and foundation are rising too.

The last slant sf fury I watched on eBay went around $225, smart bidders, no suckers in the bunch. That price means to me that pinstripe split Ps should still be about $150-200 and later models $100-150, but it does not always work out that way.

I notice all Peavey guitars steadily climbing including the 6 string T60. Reverb articles and reviews here and elsewhere are constantly praising them and comparing them to Fender quality wise. Secret is not so secret anymore.

For specimens that did not slip through QC with bad geometry, like I experienced with my 90 pinstripe, which obviously, considering the tips I received which were passed down from @mech to @58kites , were not exactly uncommon.

It was a $200+ bass when a USA fender was $500+ though.... I don't think a fender with a skewed neck would pass QC, part of the price includes the costs of the ones that don't pass. Like they used to say about high end binoculars like leica and zeiss, part of the price is the 3 we had to throw away for every one we put our name on ;)

I still love them though, but I am not going to sell my 3 fenders to buy 10 more peaveys any time soon. But I am selling my epiphone Thunderbird in hopes to score a SF foundation.

I read the article that listed the t40/t60 as on the rise, but I have a feeling that peavey QC was much better then, than it became in the 90s. Either way, people price gouge because of "USA" on the headstock, regardless.

From the selection on GC right now, this looks like the one to me.
The figuring on the headstock looks nice.
Body looks to have a few doings but the bass looks pretty good condition.
The pickup is some kind of aftermarket, it looks like.
It just needs a pickguard, .....in B/W/B or in red pearloid or a proper (not a cheapie) tort.

I've had my eye on that foundation, but for $199 that fury is a ripoff. The worst of the furies, one piece neck, 4mm hex truss rod. Import parts... That's a $100 bass. The foundy is a classic and in the realm of fairness at $249. They have some other grossly overpriced later foundations with VFLs, I didn't bother posting those. The fair prices ones sell, the overpriced ones sit for months as they go through the price drop cycles.
