U.S. Peavey Club

Just did a quick Craigslist check....there are only two USA Peavey basses currently for sale within 200 miles of me....a T40 with a missing neck pickup and a Cirrus with a cracked body. They are getting harder and harder to find.

OPINION... After owning hundreds of them... IF you found a pretty one... good shape... well cared for... it may be an opportunity to spend a bit more. In the markets I've looked at, the beaten turds are now under $200...

I've only scored one killer deal in the last year... (Axcellerator 5 shipped for under $230)

Just saw some more pics, it definitely has that "94" headstock shape I like, and currently don't own one with, but is a "crafted", and from what I can gleen, it appears to be one piece. Perhaps the rosewoods went to one piece earlier than the maple? The pics are all high contrast and glare when it counts, cant see a truss rod cover, so hopefully it is just missing. But I have a feeling it is the 4mm hex no cover.

I'm back in the area a little closer to.where it is and have $180 cash on me. Hopefully the guy is around. One of the new pics was a clear shot of serial # 062, smack in the middle of the 1993 range. I'm intrigued now.

I am going to try to see this today if possible. If the case is not cracked, and the truss is ok (don't have my hex keys with me, but there are probably some here I could borrow) and the electronics aren't all crackly, I am willing to blow the whole wad on it, but might start at $160, or 150 if I break a $20 by then.

This might be the one, its blurry pics have been perused by me for at least 6 months or more, still at the same high price all this time. And there are NO other options but furies (also priced high) and I already have 2 of those.

1993 sounds good to me, prefer maple, but I'll take a rosewood, black/rosewood, could be a nice neutral bass, arghhh I want it!

There is a hacked up parts foundation for $179 opening bid, no bids too, big goughe in the horn probably where the strap button had been knocked off, and the button is now off center. A fretless conversion, what appears to be a 93/94 neck missing the truss cover, and it is fretless conversion, on a later long horn vfl foundation body.

$79 more like it. Actually in my area, but don't think I am going to go for that one.

Pawn shop score yesterday, candy red Foundation. SF pickups, Bi-lam neck, pinstripe, that trapezoid bridge, honest wear, tho really not much for a bass its age. Someone changed the wiring from V/V/T to V/toggle/T, but that will be rectified. Pics or it didn't happen, so I'll grab some this evening and post them. I'm allergic to four strings, but this was a deal, and she fits nicely into my growing collection of US made Peavey basses.

Yeah, there is an honestly worn, 1987 natural mahogany Foundy that popped up in my Craigslist about a month ago. Has the Titans and a Peavey case, $200. I considered it since it's mahogany, but I need another Foundation like a hole in the head. IF it's still available and IF someone here wants it (ubernator), I could help broker that deal. Would cost about $50 to get it shipped off to the lower 48.

They're cool... especially if someone took care of it.. they do have a great organic wear in look to them... under the G string they do get beaten from nail rash

Nice find.
I wondered what honest wear meant, you are right, it has no dings or scratches on the body at all, just two thumb rest spots and no slapping finger dig spot, the neck finish looks very good too, this bass has been handled with care.
I would say excellent shape.
Good deal for mahogany with original case.

OK it's just a wee thing but thanks to Rene at vintagegitaar.nl the T-40-5 now sorts all 4 knobs. Holland is not just tulips and windmills I'm happy to say :)

Well, it turns out to be 1987 Mahogany Foundation in stunning condition. He also included a bullet case and 2-pack of XL Nickels.
