Well, it turns out to be 1987 Mahogany Foundation in stunning condition. He also included a bullet case and 2-pack of XL Nickels.

Stunner @ack for sure. There is absolutely nothing like the pickguardless look of a Foundation. I have to say it's one of my favorite looking basses of all time. That Mahogany beauty tops pretty much anything I've seen!!! Congrats on a huge score.

Actually looks much nicer than the one I custom ordered in 1987...

For novelty reference... rosewood + mahogany foundation = $225 and a 2 month lead.... mahogany and rosewood were additional costs.

I ordered a set of replacement knobs for it, but I'm having trouble finding a truss rod cover. Is there a good source for parts? I emailed Peavey but little useful response so far - they just asked for the serial #. I've seen eBay auctions for custom made covers and period covers for T-series guitars and basses (specifically a T-20). Would any of these fit?

Great score! Peavey has no TR covers from that period. The ones I've seen on Epay will work. The one for your Foundation would be single layer black.

Wow, another Peavey work of art. The matching of the 3 piece body is extremely well done and works just perfectly with the burst. Congrats on a beautiful score!!

Yes. They were standardized through the 80's peavey line. Also, the later single ply cover from the early 90's will work.

Those custom truss rod covers will fit a Foundation perfectly.
