@bigtone23 and @mech Those are both frickin sweet mods! They look awesome. I also have a single pickup Forum that I've changed out pickups in to try for a fatter passive tone. I was disappointed with the Chi-sonic humbucker I tried first. I wired it with a 3-way switch to do series/single coil/parallel. It only put out decent volume in sc mode, and then it wasn't really like the Darkstar sound I thought I was going to get. Right now it has a Rudy Sarzo pickup in it with the same switch which acts as a series/sc/off, I think. It sounded a little better, but still not what I was looking for. A T-40 pickup could be a the next step, or maybe a Darkstar if I start saving my pennies.

I'm surprised your Forum is neck heavy, because the body on mine is a good bit heavier than my Fury or RSB. I'm also about to setup one of my basses BEAD. D standard has become my go to, but I'd like to have one with those lower notes ready to go.

Nice Forum, mech! The pinstriping on the headstock is a really nice touch! I couldn't believe my score on the knobs and pickup.
sirsam22, the Peavey T pickup provided exactly what I was hoping for: it's loud and fat-but has clarity and output in single coil mode. Much more thickness vs the split coil P pickup I was used to hearing in the bass. I think it's because all four strings are being read by both coils. Before installing it, I measured it around 10.4K humbucking and 5.2K single coil. Another cool thing is that the pickup splits to the bridge-side coil, which is located about a 5/8" towards the neck from where a Ric bridge pickup would be located on a 34" bass. The tonality of the split coil, in that position, gives a decent, quasi Ric bridge tone.
That was my goal with this mod--to repurpose this bass to get tones outside of the usual P and J variety that I have in spades. To be honest, I even consider my SF equipped Foundations to have an aggressive, J type tone-like 3 parts J, 1 part Ric. I thought briefly about getting a MFD and doing this up like a G&L L1000, but the Peavey pickup, string tree and knobs have a funky, cooler look to them. That counts for something!

Wow, both Bigtone23's '84 RB630 and Mech's Forum look to be fantastic basses. Nice use of a good platform.

I did some work with a '94 Forum P/J where I dropped in the DiMarzio DP122/123 P/J set and mated it with a beautiful '93 Fury neck.
One of my favorites. I took a blind leap on these pickups, and they are right up my alley.

Really like the Dimarzio Model P and Model J pickups, and they are not expensive either.

@ack ...I put the same set in my 1995 cream 1st model Forum. The DP122/123 is a great set. Got it from a musicgoround where it was listed at $100 and having too much neck bow with the TR nut maxed. Talked the manager down to $60 plus shipping for taking a chance and...... two thin washers later, it's a player! :woot: Great, thin, 2nd model Fury type neck. Had it at the same gigs with the Forum 40 and alternated sets with them. Tuxedo bass nights.

So, the VFL pickup in my G-bass crapped out on me. I've been in contact with Peavey about getting a replacement, but they don't seem to willing selling me a new one for some reason. Maybe someone here know where I can get a second hand one? Maybe someone even has one for sale? Or know of a replacement by a different manufacturer that will work? (not needing routing, that is)

I'd scout ebay - I think the VFLs are easier to find than the Super Ferrites are - good luck with your search...

There is good reason the Dimarzio Model P and J have had such a long, viable life in the market!
It's like the Super Distortion humbucker. It's a design that delivers for a wide swath of players.

I'd say it's the same pickup. The G-bass just uses the same style housing as the Sarzo,the height adjustment screws and on the sides rather than front and back. If you discard the screw area the pickup measures 91mm.

Don't think Linus can mount a Cirrus pickup in a G Bass without routing.
Cirrus has the four screw tabs along the long sides while the G Bass has screws on the short ends.
Linus said he was looking for a replacement that would work.... "(not needing routing that is)"

A Thunderbird pickup would fit in if you put a custom trim ring around it.
There are a number of great sounding T-Bird pickups from several companies.
I bet a "Thunder G" bass would be awesome!
