I believe the majority of VFL pickups (Cirrus, 2nd Gen TL-5) are humbucking and active, but the ones in the Foundation are single coil and passive.
T-40 experts, please help me out here.
I’m putting my old black T-40 back together and something is up with the wiring. Both pickups work when soloed (via the pickup selecter switch), but only one (bridge) works with the switch in the middle position. the switch itself is brand new so i suspect that’s not the issue. is there anything else i should be looking at? are there any simple ways to diagnose what/were the problem is?

Just to be sure, that switch has to be a DPDT. If I had to guess, I'd say the selector switch is wired incorrectly or has a bad solder joint. All the wires should be soldered to the two terminals across from each other. Here's a schematic and wiring diagram. I've added the box to the bottom right of the wiring diagram to show how the switching happens in the pickup selector switch.
@mech You’d know this...were the original passive VFL pickups single coil or humbucking? Thanks!
They are single coils, or at least have one blade type pole piece in the center. Not sure how the coil is constructed. You can tell with a small steel object like a nail. It wants to stick in the center of the pickup. On the actives it will stick on both sides of centerline. I have 3 basses with the passives and they will pickup hum with only one PU used. Not very much at all IME since the magnet structure is grounded but a little taste.
So the USPS just dropped off the Cirrus 5 bolt on that was on eBay. I think the same seller had the blue 5, this bubinga topped five, and a red four. Anyway, EXTREMELY clean bass. I'll get my pics up maybe tomorrow. In the meantime, the pics from the listing.

Whyzzatt?? Just cuz I grabbed up all the GVs, and this Cirrus bolt? I'm pretty much done. I have at least one of every US made Peavey five string, except for the Dynabass. Since I have a foundation, I don't feel compelled to get a Dyna. I don't have an axcelerator bass. In my defense, I bought one when they first came out and didn't really like it. I don't recall why, but I do know that very shortly after that I had a second gen TL5. That, and I do have one of those short scale Axcelerator six string piccolo basses with the locking tremolo.
Took it home, cleaned it up, changed the strings (put Cirrus strings on). The neck pocket had a small thin shim - that explained the high action. When I first got it it was playable but I like stoopid low action ! Shimmed it with two business card pieces. Adjusted the truss rod to get the neck nice and flat. Then I noticed some creak when tuning so I lubed the nut, tuned it up and OMG - fastest neck I’ve ever played. Action is scary low - have to raise the bridge saddles just a touch. Beautiful, light, sounds fantastic. Holy cow what an instrument! I seriously think it may become my go to over my Cirrus 5 - it just fits me better.

Do any of the Peavey 5 stringers have 19mm/.75" string spacing at the bridge?

Not that I've ever seen, but I'm no expert... My Foundation 5 was 17mm, which I increased to 17.5mm by changing the bridge to a MIM Fender bridge - it ended up having the exact same feel as my Sterling 5 HS...

Update on my Millenium - the the D string tuning machine is binding some - so I took a closer look, and it does appear that the tuning key is bent a bit. Odd - there is no damage at all on the headstock or tuning key. Contacted Peavey to see if they have replacements available. If not, does anyone know if the Hipshot Ultralights come with a black and buffed silver key to match?

You should be able to contact Hipshot and have them assemble one for you from different parts. I don't believe there is a stock Ultralite that matches.
