I have 84 & 85 Foundations and used to have a 93, all Super Ferrite equipped. There is a slight (not considerable in my case) drop in volume when both PUs are on 10. The drop comes from the characteristic mid scoop from the phase relationship of the two pickups. When you solo one pickup, the phasey mid scoop disappears and you are left with a punchier, mid forward sound. Same thing happens on Jazz Basses.

Thanks for weighing in - in mine, the drop in volume is definitely more pronounced than it is with my Foundation 5, or either of my Fender Jazz Basses... Since both pickups work just fine when solo'd or blended other than both wide open - I'm wondering if it's an anomaly between the pots, or if this bass may benefit from having both pickups being wired in phase with one another, like a Fender Jazz Bass...

It isn't a deal breaker either way, since I never would run both pickups wide open on a two pickup bass like this - but I've never seen one act exactly like this, and I've owned a few other Foundations and a lot of Fender Jazz Basses - and it has me wondering... Again, thanks for the input...

You can save the +2 string stress by letting me keep it safe for you...

Black Onyx ... well done... took me a ton of time to find a non-purple Axcellerator.... I now keep it at a church I'm on every weekend.... the pro sound crew can't tell the difference between this one and one of my $$$$$ basses.

One of the tuners was replaced with a Gotoh, because Hipshot sent the seller the wrong tuner nut (was missing for whatever reason), but the original tuner was still included. I just need to get the right nut from Hipshot (easy task). Anyway, there are only a few little, little blemishes here and there, all very minor. This looks to be a true custom, like my previous Cirrus (redwood top/alder body/walnut & maple neck), just with different woods. I thought the top was originally figured walnut, but it is wenge! Sweet. The body looks like mahogany (possibly plain koa?). The stringers, or thinner pieces in the neck, look like purpleheart, with the main pieces matching the body. I'm going to email Peavey, and see what I've got here, because the body and neck has the natural deep orange/brown of koa, but who knows. Oh, and the fretboard looks to be jet-black ebony, with no fret ends sticking out. Yep, this looks like it came stock with the Hipshot bridge and Millennium preamp. The bridge is a HUGE plus for me...the ABM ones are a royal pain, imo. This must be a rarer-than-rare bird, because I don't think they did true customs with the Hipshot bridge, at least for too long, anyway. The tiger eye models, yes, but those were production models, even if on the rare side.

This one's probably around the 10lb mark (feels like the Yamaha BBNE2), but won't be my main bass, as my Millennium is that. I'll set it up either tonight or Thursday, so a tone report or full-on review will arrive shortly after.

I saw one like this on ebay last year, but it didn't have the headstock signature. Before I could purchase it, someone else grabbed it. Definitely a rare find. Treat her right, lol.

I saw this on Ebay last year, around Aug/Sept, so I'm curious as to what the you saw one was (since it was sold). Anyway, I passed this one up for some reason, as the auction just ended, with no sale. A few weeks later, I was thinking, "Why the hell did I pass that up?!?" I then sent an email to the seller, a while after the auction, and got no response. Earlier this month, I tried again, and got a response saying that it was still available. The seller was hesitant at this point, because of the bass' rarity, and so I told him that I can pay him now, and he agreed to sell. :hyper::bassist:
