Well done T-40 body mod, I'd buy it. Seen some well done swiss cheese hole drilled T-40s too. Looks like it's well balanced on the strap.
I will say I don't have the courage to cut/drill a T-40 or T-45 myself. Would only do a radical body mod to my ultimate keeper bass, never to be sold.

Has the fella experience of MIDI and bass ? Everytime I try to get a handle on working mine I just give up It's very old tech and there's cheaper more versatile options out these days.

The dead A string could be 1 of 2 things. The pickup sensor in the bridge has moved or is damaged/dirty. The other is the trim pots need re-adjusted.

If he can solve the A string issue and has a project in mind it could be a good idea. My advice to him is go see it and explain to the seller he'll want plenty of time to check it over before even thinking of buying.

I would email Peavey and see what they say about the potential of it being fixed. If you cannot get any support from Peavey at all, then personally, I would shy away from it. Unless you want to buy it for collector purposes.

The availability of a "qualified tech" for this bass is probably extremely limited outside of Peavey and I'm sure the seller knows that by now.

It's a 22 year old bass, what's the chances of anyone still with Peavey who has experience with them ? Our good brother @mech was involved in some aspects of it,maybe he can advise. I'm with @Runnerman in thinking the seller is aware of difficulties in getting this up and running. Last one for sale on TB was about $1300. OK this doesn't come with the Spectrum module but the manual makes a point of telling owners to be very careful when buying other synths. Read P.26 and swap 4 MIDI channels for 5 MIDI channels (manual is for the 5 string).

I've had fantastic luck with the original engineers/techs being available to work on it.

Some whacky stuff with Peaveys on Reverb today. I saw a maroon T-40. That's rare if it's original, but it now sports a Fender neck. What a waste.

Then I saw a stock, scratched up pj Forum listed for $500 + $100 shipping! What!? I sent what I think was a polite message about them going for less than that brand new and seeing them go for $200 or less over the last couple years.

Forums in good shape are hard to find for less than 300 lately. But prices and availability of USA made Peavey basses are definitely changing. Prices going up and availability going down. You're still going to find the oddball deal where the person doesn't really know what they have but the market is definitely on the upswing from what I'm seeing.

I know it's somewhat blasphemy, but he should just part that T40 out. He might just get closer to his unrealistic $600 goal that way. Plenty of guys looking for the original electronic parts and that body would sell for good $, being the rare maroon and all.
As a whole, it's what, a $350-400 bass? There are usually T40 necks all over the interwebs for $50-125.

The Fender neck is a standard issue MIM P neck. Modern C profile, 9.5" radius, 1 5/8" wide at the nut. I have a feeling the original neck went south and this was popped on to complete the bass.

Thanks for the heads up. I bought it. I had a 5 string Forum with dual pickups. It was a great bass but weighed 12 pounds. I hope this four weighs less.

I had the urge to get it at that price but since I have a 1st model...... You're going to like it. Totally different from the 2nd model 5 string you had. Small body, Fury neck. Really good pickups, too. Mine's cream color and I changed the hardware to black. Bad picture enlarged and cropped.
