Man, what a cool looking bass....what color & year is this bass?
Peavey needs to reissue that body design....i just marvel at what Peavey achieved with basses....the sad part is, i live in what was Peavey country in the 70's & 80's and some of the bands i know aren't aware of how many cool bass models Peavey produced.
For some reason its only the T40 that resonates with the Fender players in my area.
I have a few questions for the experts and experienced here. Thank you in advance for your input.
I have been looking for an inexpensive P/J to commit to Eb tuning in my 80s cover band. The Foundation S or Ibanez RB650 have been on my search list as I know exactly what those basses are and what I could expect. I did find and put in a ridiculously low bid on a 1993/1994 era Forum Plus and won! It was Handcrafted In The USA, green and has active pickups, which are all bonuses as those are preferences for me, particularly for this task as the other basses I use are active. It looks to be all original except the knobs and some black paint on the original white guard. Seller said it's 9.5 pounds. That's right in the zone for me, too.
I have never played one, so what should I expect? I'm not crazy picky and get a lot of joy finding and playing these bargains. I will most likely deeply clean it up, set it up and play it like it is.
--It looks to have the 1.5" nut, is the neck profile similar to the 93-ish era Foundation? I had one of those, it was pretty thin, but comfy.
--The hardware all looks acceptable, the bridge looks to be of the cast/semi-high mass type. Tuners are the standard elephant ear type Peavey used in this era.
--It has the factory active pickups, which seem to be an EMG inspired design in that they are internally preamped and powered up. How do they sound? Are they hot or standard output? I do have some EMGs in my parts drawer if they don't cut it. Given Peavey's hit rate with pickup design, I shouldn't be disappointed.
--Also, one pot was said to be fixed/replaced. What value did Peavey use for these? I searched for a wiring diagram and found nothing. I assume it's somewhere in the 25-50K range like most actives? I may add an EMG or Duncan Blackouts concentric bass/treble preamp to replace the tone control.

[/QUOTE] The design for the B-Quad belongs to Brian Bromberg, I believe Carvin are building them now. With the T40's approaching 40 years old I'm surprised Fender fans are interested, normally they only care about 60 year old stuff

Correct on what @kodiakblair said about Brian's design. Sad thing, is that I ordered and returned a (now Kiesel) B25...action was too high, for me, and the neck wasn't straight (s-curved, actually). What a shame. The Peavey one was beastly, indeed.

It’s some Red/Magenta color. Really looks different with different lights. Added some more pics of it
Not sure what year is it. Serial number starts with 0851. Probably 1996.
Regarding the body shape, I will mention that it’s not that comfortable to play sitting with it, the lower horn digs into your leg and it kinda hurts after a while. Other than that it’s quite perfect!

I've ordered and owned around 10 or so Carvins/Kiesels, and only TWO were good...should've kept those! Either I'm a royal pain, or Peaveys have spoiled me.
oh the joy of a new Peavey T-40!
or, at least the joy of securing a nice one with a down payment...
after losing out this morning on a whole different Peavey I'd been lusting over cos of an insane $200 shipping tab I'm glad I had this gorgeous burst T-40 just waiting for it's chance and Beat Street Music worked well with me to get it sent next month. I'd prefer a blonde board but those can be found and with extra necks I can enjoy my T-20 FL as a fretted too.* however, the burst was what I'd been longing for and this one has maybe the nicest top I've seen in a burst, and at $400 w/ohsc I'm rather shocked it lasted long enuf for me to land it. if it had the maple board it probably would've been snapped up quick. here's some seller shots.
*seems I recall issues with exchanging necks between the 20s and 40s, which ones fit, again, please?
at least an 8 for cond., the front side has survived the years and it's got the blade PUs which I wanted
a few dings and worming, but negligible buckle rash!
I coulda done worse!

I will be doing a major downsizing of my bass collection but my old Carvin and Peavey basses are all escaping the chopping/selling block. Or I might sell the Verdine White bass with the right offer.

[/QUOTE]I dont mean that they actually like the T40! Its the fact it was the one bass that really stood out when it hit the market.
The first player i remember playing (i think) a T40 was Ross Valory with Journey which i saw in 78 and 79 i believe.
The Cirrus does register with some i have talked to but most of the others not so much, even though i saw Peavey gear all over local stages.
Well a NOBD for me today thanks to a lead from our very own Peavey Guru, and all round good guy kodiakblair. The bass in question is a 1986 Peavey Foundation in Black/Rosewood & matching headstock, and with the OHSC chainsaw type and the bass is in great condition for a 32 yr old bass. Pictures when I get home still at work at the moment.

Firstly it is better made and finished than my '92 Foundation I have read that the, quality of the earlier versions was better and to me it is the neck on the '86 is better than a lot of basses from now. I would like to thank kodiakblair again for finding this (and not buy it for himself). The only Peavey bass I want now is a '79 T-40 like my Dad bought me for my 21st, which was stolen a few years later.

I've noticed that trend as well. The earlier models or versions were built better. First generation TL5 had a Schaller bridge, second had a generic bridge. Little things, but they don't go unnoticed.
