I picked up a Foundation body with black crackle, red veins and clear coat last week. Just got it finished and set up with BEAD strings. Super Ferrites, of course, that are wired series with a single coil tap like the T-40 (middle knob). Volume and Tone with a .047uF cap. Thought about a preamp but it doesn't need it at all. I had the Badass II gold bridge and neck. The neck is a good Korean import with the topnut width at 1.5". It's thicker and with a round profile unlike the normal Foundation. Wheel at the heel TR adjustment and I had modified it years ago for a stealth bass which is neckless now. Needless to say it sounds like it ought too and is a real player. Being able to blend in some neck PU in series really beefs up the fundamental but it's not overbearing since the amount of neck pickup in series is controlled. There is still more than enough highs. Action is set at 4/64" at the 12th and neck relief is about .007". It's not a light weight. Estimate weight at over 9 lbs.

May go with black hardware and Foundation neck with the back painted semi-gloss black later but the gold is growing on me. Brings to mind Gollum, the One Ring and lava in Mount Doom.

Needless to say neither my camera nor photography skills do the paint justice. Definitely a stunner in good light.

Oh that's purdy.

Handy zero-cost photo tip for anybody: The cheapest way to improve your photos a zillionfold is to take your axe outside. If it's cloudy, you're good! If it's sunny, find a shady spot like the dark side of your house or apartment. This works a whole lot better than photographing near a big window or under a ceiling lamp. Even cheap cellphones these days have decent cameras, and they'll do their best in almost any kind of natural light.

So, where does my 89 Fury with white body, black hardware and headstock and tort PG fall in the wedding vs. sinister category? I like the black hardware and headstock against the white, the Chandler tort guard leans a bit more towards reddish than brownish.

Imo, all black basses can contrast well with any stage clothing, even black on maple basses imo.

White with gold hardware is its own thing....i happen to like some gold with certain shades of green and blue....the color green is 95% blue with yellow, gold or some shade of brown shade added.

Its funny back in the day metal flake was part of the rock glam thing...even some country artists wanted very flashy clothing (Porter Wagoneer, Dolly etc)....ive considered at least one loud metalflake guitar!

Like I said, I've become partial to white and faded white basses, I like black hardware best and I love a good tort pickguard (if it's good tort)....so I would consider your combination in the "top shelf" category.
I like black basses, but I've become partial to the less glossy old nitro blacks or black without a ton of clear-coat.
I don't like gold hardware because the plating wears off so easily, seems the black hardware lasts..even longer than chrome.

I like pink, I like white, I like black, I like sparkly, I like tort, I like mint, I like all the colors and guards when the overall look is easy on the eye. Sometimes stuff just clashes too hard for me. For instance, many pearl guards don’t look right to me. They either add too much busy-ness or they clash with the rest of the bass or the fretboard look.

The neck feels fantastic on this bass!! Love the tung oil! And the paint removal was definitely done by a pro!! I didn’t know how sleek and contoured the body would be, with it’s super skinny horns and curved/contoured body (ala Spector and Warwick). She’s lightweight too. All my main players are heavy... but, I won’t complain HAHA!!

I’ll need to adjust tighten the truss a smidge to get the action where I like it for EADG, and throw some new strings on. It came tuned DGCF with a smidge more relief than I like. I usually have nearly no relief at all. Unless the truss is stripped, this bass, plus a nearly new gig bag, and unexpected Levy’s strap will be the best $250 I’ve spent in a while!

Ive used tung oil but switched to Tru Oil and never looked back....both were fine....i used a bit of tung oil on a RW board with great success too, otherwise i use mineral oil for RW boards.

Good score btw!

I love it ! I agree with the faded white that has yellowed like on all MIJ 19800's basses. Simply gorgeous.

As far as your "Dictionry of colors" goes, it should be in the Peavey Dictionary.
I always called gold cars as "Grandma Gold" because usually only old ladies drive them. Like a gold Dodge Aries K Car LOL.

I don't want to violate too many TB rules, but I'm putting my 1982 T-45 (Black/Maple) up for sale locally (Raleigh, NC) next week.
When I got it, there were several TB'ers who wanted me to let them know if/when I was selling it.

So, question for the council of elders:

If one had a bass that was all(mostly, except for the piece you can't find) Peavey, but not necessarily parts from one model, would that bass deserve to be counted here? For the record, I'm not talking about my T-40 built from parts. That one is all Peavey, even tho it will have Super Ferrite pickups out of a Foundation.

I'd say yes... 'cuz "what year is my bass" is kind of silly when (unlike other brands) it's more like "what generation vibe did my bass have"

Maybe if we knew what parts you needed... we may be able to legitimise your peavey - i'm trying to ditch stuff
