Do you have a Millennium 4 J/J?

After playing mine for a few minutes I think it will sound fine in a band setting. P basses hit me the same way. I'm not crazy about the tone when I am home alone but they sound fantastic in a band.

I think the bass has stainless strings on it. I will polish her up and put on a set of D'Adarrio XL's and see how I like it. I also have a set of lightly used TI flats or a set of LaBella flats I could put on it. I'll sleep on it. lol

Good idea. However, it can be hard to get comfortable.:D

I had a Millennium4 J/J and I did end up selling it. Not because I didn't like it but it just was not my sound. Very hi-fi and as a Jazz bass incredible really. The mid-sweep function is the key. You need to spend a lot of time with this bass to get the sounds you are looking for. Plus the 18V pre is super hot so dial in some cut and start there. If I would have kept it I might have tried flats to tame it a bit more.

Re-selling, I had no problem at all. Sold on Craigslist within a day or two.

I agree. The mid control is very powerful. I like flats a lot and probably will go that wa

Only if there are 4 leads coming from the pickup, or if there is a way to modify it to have 4. I'm assuming the T45 has the same pickup as the T40? I believe the T40 was wired pretty crazily from everything I've read, so, if the pickups are indeed the same, there may be a good chance of being able to do what you want.

EDIT: I've attached what looks like Peavey's schematic for the T45. It looks like there is indeed 4 leads coming from the pickup, so it should be a matter of figuring out which 2 goes with each coil, then wiring 2 volumes up like a Jazz bass, or any other bass with 2 pickups. When each coil volume is turned up, it should give you a parallel humbucker.

that's kinda what I was thinking (the 4 leads thing) and with how it transitions from single to humbucker--maybe it does?

I can understand simple schematics, which this one is. Anything more complex, and I'm lost!

It should be a simple, and easily reversible mod, if you find it doesn't float your boat. It'll basically be a Jazz bass, but with the pickups right next to each other. There will be some tonal variation between the coils, but I doubt it will be massive. I would think a series/parallel switch would give you better variation, but then there would be a volume difference between the settings. I like to tinker, so this is intriguing to me. Let us know how it goes!

if it works, I was thinking of finding the single coil I like, and using the other coil as humbucker boost a little more gain with the volume knob

then having full tone control instead of the wonky tone controls the t45 comes with

kinda like a super pbass really

I'm not sure that's how it will work. When both coils are full up, it will become a humbucker, but, since it'd be wired in parallel, it would simply be both coils on, with no noise, if that makes sense. If you're looking for boost, a series/parallel switch would give you a boost on the series setting.

It looks to me that, stock, the pickup is wired in parallel, and each tone control affects one coil, which would give you a bit of variation, but not a ton. Looks like they were trying to maximize what they could get out of a passive, one-pickup system.

@kkaarrll ....I recommend you wire it like this. The 25KL changes it from single coil to series humbucker. FWIW, I use this mod on several Super Ferrite Foundations and a Dyna Bass. The wiring on the Dyna Bass is the same but more difficult due to the PCB. On your T-45. green or black will be ground, red to the 25KL and white output. Green or black and white can be swapped to change the one you want for single coil.

trying to learn
