Sorry to talk you out of buying a USA Peavey. The Forum 4 and 5 are great basses but the 5's tend to be very heavy. I recently saw one for sale at GC and it was almost as heavy as the one I owned. It was 11 pounds for certain.
The Foundation 5 is a killer bass if passive electronics and single coil PU's suit you. They are usually quite light and sound fantastic. They are usually bargain priced too.

I may have a few spare USA peaveys (that dont see sunlight) ready.
Was more curiosity than anything else.

Spotted a Peavey Forum P/J in the Facebook ads. It was cheap so now it is here. Red body in pretty good shape and the rather scarce rosewood fingerboard. Needs lots of TLC. Action was horrible so now I am dealing with the truss rod nut that is a pain to get at. I've tightened it a lot and the action is good but still not quite where I would like it to be so I have loosened the strings and have it resting in my humidity controlled room. I don't know that it will help but it won't hurt. No telling where the bass has been stored...perhaps in a garage where it would have baked in the Texas heat.
In any case, the bass was all there including the truss rod nut cover. The pots need cleaning as does the entire bass. I'll have another go at the neck tomorrow. I already have the truss rod nut quite tight and certainly don't want to break the rod or strip the nut. I wish the truss rod nut access was better. I'd like to remove the nut and put a dab of grease on the threads but I am afraid I might not be able to get the nut back on.
I'll go slow and see if I can get the old girl put right. It is a perfectly nice bass that deserved better treatment. There will be photos after it is polished up.

Use a #2 Phillips to start the nut back. Insert tip in hole, tilt slightly and apply a little pressure. This shape works best.
Thanks so much! That worked perfectly. The nut is much easier to turn and the relief is now set to minimum and the bass plays great. As a bonus the electronics sound wonderful. The pots need to be cleaned but I will do that soon when I have enough time to polish everything. There is little fret wear and the fingerboard is beautifully figured rosewood. Complete clean and polish and new strings will put this baby ready for action.
I'm thinking flats on this one. I have a set of LaBella's and a set of TI flats. I will likely use the TI's. I think they will be a terrific match for this Peavey.
The Forum is a killer bass. It cleaned up nicely and has no chips in the finish. There are only some small dents on the back. The wiring had been messed with so I corrected that and hit the pots with Deoxit 5. I waxed it, polished the frets and installed a set of TI flats. Now I am ready to play!

I picked up a ratty 94 Forum Plus on eBay because it was not only under $200 shipped, but it was a cool deep metallic green, which may be my favorite color on an instrument. Cleaned it up, got a new black pickguard, and changed the stock active pickups and harness for Wilde P46/J45 with some trick wiring and really love it's sound and playability!
I'm surprised that kahler works on there. Those bridges are pretty tall.
Whoever modded it routed the body so it sits at the correct height. Did such a good job it looks like it came from the factory that way. Maybe was special ordered that way but I have no way of knowing for sure.
The Forum is set up and ready to go.

Every one i had could maintain. Less than 1mm Action (without the rjiv modification)
I've spent some time playing the Forum and have some observations. First it plays and feels great. The neck feels very comfortable and is carved in a shape similar to a Fender Jazz. The nice part about it is that it is very easy to play and it feels NATURAL....and comfortable..and no dead spots.
The bass weighs 8 pounds, 10 ounces and is the lightest bass I own. Remarkably the second lightest at 8 pounds, 14.5 ounces is my G. Gould ggi6 6 string. The Forum body shape is very natural feeling and pleasing to the eye.
Now...the electronics. I've played and owned quite a few passive P/J basses through the years including two of Fender's Hot Rod Precision basses that were part of the American Standard line at one time. The Fenders were nice basses and, as you might expect, played well and sounded nice. It sounded similar to a P and similar to a J and I sold them both. The second best sounding passive P/J that passed through my collection was a Squier Jaguar. Yeah, a Squier. It had Duncan designed PU's and stacked tone/volume controls. It sounded great and I only bought it because it was in a Fender tolex case and the case was worth what I paid for the bass and case. I sold the bass for more than I paid for the pair so I made money and got a free case.
Then there is the Forum. Turn down the volume on the J PU and it sounds exactly like a Precision. Not close....exactly. Blend in the J PU and you get a little more bite and more volume. Turn up the J and turn down the P PU and now this rascal sounds like a J bass with only the bridge PU on. Yeah, that Jaco tone. How did Peavey do this? I have no idea but I do know it must not be easy because other manufacturers fail to get this tone out of their passive P/J bases.
I am almost embarrassed to admit I bought this bass in a ratty gig bag and a Peavey Backstage Plus amp (it works just fine) for $100. This is as good a deal as the TL5 I bought for $415 delivered.
