What is it about these old Furies? I picked one up after reading a lot of this thread. I think it's an '89 and the neck is pretty dinged up. Fretboard is not dinged much at all.

Spent fifteen dollars to have a few frets leveled and I intend to drop fill the dings in the neck. Further, I intend to take it apart and refinish the body.

The problem is that I can't stop playing it long enough to do what I intended to do! It's not like I don't have three other basses that I paid a lot more for (well, not much more for the SX fretless.)

Can't decide if it's the neck (fast--thin--comfortable even beat up,) or the sound. Something just makes this one compelling.

The issue was that they were kind of a special order.. wasnt' a ton of info on them...
Yes I want a GV too..

You'll note that when one hits a high selling price.. there's instantly a few that get released at a lower rate.. the issue is the ones that command $$$$ are pristine.

Quite sincerely they're everything Fender hoped to do.. OPINION.. unless your bass is totally ugly.. gig it as is.. Fury basses are great to sand necks.. do some slight mods etc.. they're cheap enough that you can find a pristine condition one.

I paid $400 for my Axcelerator 6 here a few years ago. That included shipping and a generic hard case. Worth EVERY PENNY and MORE!! It's an unbelievable amazing bass. I didn't know if I'd like it or not, but after I bought it I sold my USA Fender Jazz V which had previously been my "#1". The Ax6 is now my new "#1" go-to bass. It's easily the equal to any top level bolt-on Peavey USA bass (Millenium, Dyna-Bass, etc.).

I know where there's an RJ.. I set it up.. unfortunately now with Randy's popularity it will not be a $100 bass..

I've seen them sell in the $475-800 range... and they're worth it.

IF anyone buys one, PM me.. there's a trick/glitch to setting them up..

By far the best rock gig bass they ever put out.

They may be the best rock bass, may be great, but they sure are ugly (IMHO). Beauty is in the eye of the beholder :-)) . And yes, I am a huge Peavey (MIA) bass fan. I just can't stomach the look of these, but do appreciate what they are (functionally)! ;)

Snagged another Foundation this week, which included the bomb-proof Peavey case, with felt lining.

The PO had the action waaay up, Jamerson-style. Plays very nice now since I trussed out the huge neck bow, dropped the saddles way down, and "de-tilted" the neck.

Surprisingly, it needed NO intonation tweeking, even after all the other radical setup adjustments. 100% dead ballz on.

Not usually a fan of black basses, but this one has character.

I opened a thread in the Luthier section that I am going to use to detail my refinish efforts when I redo my '89 Fury.

I started by getting the thing setup (took awhile to get it right) and now I almost don't want to tear it apart. What a great playing/sounding p-bass!

I did spend a lot of time resetting some frets. Also use CA and lacquer to fill a lot of dents on the neck. Smooth..smooth..smooth now.

Can't believe this was a $75.00 bass now. I have three other basses, but am finding that I grab the Peavey first. Not good! I'm supposed to be refinishing the thing!

Looking to learn.. what's prototype on this bass?

There were 2 different eras.. most of this was the neck Mfg (can tell by if it's painted or clear coated)
