So I’ve been putting stainless steel D’Addarios on my last TL-Five and also my current one. Many years ago I bought my bass mentors TL-Five he bought new when they came out. I toured with that bass for 3 years (as well as a MM Stingray 5) and always used the D’Addario XL nickels. I decided to finally go back to the nickels and put a light gauge set on tonight! Got it all set up and Holy Schnikes!! It sounded good before but these strings seem to be right in the TL’s wheelhouse. There is a rich bottom, good mids and a smooth top end that isn’t over zingy......even with them being a brand new set. It looks like I’ll be making the return to nickels full time now. Wish I would have gone back sooner!
I own a pair of Millennium Plus 5's that have a figured body and necks very much like the one on that bass.
As you can see, the one on the left has a highly figured top and the one on the right has a lightly flamed top. I believe they are both Millennium Plus.
You may be right. Wow, Imagine a GV neck on that !!! Carbon Fiber ! DAAAAAAMN !!!!

Prototyping
I’ve been prototyping the Millenium-GV conversion for a few weeks. Just to do “proof of concept it seems like there’s a “paint stick thick” shim needed.
The tech I work with will make an exact wedge/footprint shim. He’ll then string it with exposed core stainless strings. We’ll get together and do the final geometry and strobe intonation.
To the best of my knowledge they are plus. The finish option and hipshotesque tuners were an upgrade. Some would also pay to have the headstock match the body.
The neck profile is magical.
When i had the house fire, a standard black onyx Millennium was the one that came with me.

What do you do for shimming?
Neck swapping was common.... So was swapping gv/cirrus and Millennium preamps.
GMillenium Shim —- what did you have to do.... I’m finding that it’s possible it may be a 1/8” wedge.
I always use a business card cut in half as a shim.
Today was my lucky day.
I went on to the GC used site to peek at used basses (something I’ve been doing daily for the past few weeks). They just listed a Foundation with Super Ferrites for $149! As it turned out I was actually just down the road from my local GC so I swung by and placed the order. Should be here in 3-5 days. Totally feel like I scored as long as it has no issues. It looked great in the pics. Aged white finish (cream?), maple board. The headstock has the newer logo which I’ve seen on a few Super Ferrite models. I guess this was during a transition? Not sure of the year.
Anyways I’ll post my review once it’s here.

LUCKY !!!!!!!!!!! (As said like Napoleon Dynamite)
I own a very lovely blue Foundation Custom that I got from 58kites. It is a wonderful bass and lives up to the well deserved reputation these basses have for an aggressive tone. When I set the bass up I changed the strings to TI flats thinking that the strings would tone down the high frequency grind and give me what I prefer.
The bass still had quite an edge to the tone even with the tone control rolled off and TI flats. I decided to look at the tone cap and found it to be a .022uf. I decided to install a .047uf to see how it sounded and it did reduce the edginess some but not quite enough. I was considering going to more mellow sounding flats....LaBella or D'Adarrio Chromes but the bass is set up so well I really didn't want to change the set up.
A few minutes ago I put the original capacitor in parallel with the .047 I had installed and now the bass sounds just like I was wanting it to. With the tone control I can go from a nice grind to a lovely and smooth tone similar to a jazz bass. Yes, I know it is not a jazz bass and I wasn't trying to make it into one, however, the original tone control did very little to effect the tone.
An interesting thing...my Peavey basses have replaced my Fender basses. One of the last to go was a Roscoe Beck V that I owned for many years. It was a terrific bass but my Millennium 5's are lighter, sound better and have much better feeling necks.

I like that my Peaveys come stock with a .022 caps in them, with other passive basses I tend to feel that the .047 cap cuts too much.
Of the Peavey basses though, I can see how the Foundation has room to go to a larger cap value and not kill the sound.
One of the reasons I've become such a fan of the EMG Geezer Butler passive P pickup/control assembly is because the treble roll off is very smooth and not too much cut.

Wow...sweet bass, weird thing is I literally just saw one of these but a fretless with hardcase for sale $550 in my area on FB Marketplace (Oxford MI, and should search basses, you should find it) . Not interested in a fretless at this time (or of course I wouldn't be posting this, and letting you guys know lol) so perhaps someone here might be interested in it. Looks like the seller's willing to ship too. Not associated with the seller or sale of this item in any way, but might interest someone here.
Oh it still very much sounds like a SF Foundation but now I can tame that tone if I choose to. Odd thing is that my beat up Foundation with SF PUs has a tone control that works fine to my ear but it came to me with a .047uf cap in the tone control. Someone had worked on the electronics and had things screwed up so I don't know if that tone control was altered or not.
