I've read on TB so many times how some folks are very happy to have a basswood body.I would have thought poplar too. It's way cheaper than basswood which fits with the G-bass design. I guess they were gauging sales before upping the ante for the G-V.
I just finished fixing a Squier Vintage Modified Precision Bass TB (a sort of 1972 Tele Bass RI).
Almost every screw hole on that bass was stripped out by the original owner in his attempt to replace the two saddle bridge with a Hipshot and to replace the control pots.
Poplar beats basswood by far IMO.
