U.S. Peavey Club

^_^ I will be taking some pics of my Foundation and posting them here soon if Im allowed in the club. I might sneak in a pic of my Bat too if thats ok. ^_^

And I swear my T40 had at least 24 frets. It was no 20 fretter. I have been cruising eBay on and off since last year trying to find one and I remember the first T40 I ran across the shortness of the neck threw me back. The neck on mine was loooonnng. Then as it was all starting to come back to me I remembered the different fret scales and every T40 that pops up I count the frets and every time its 20. *sigh* Though I did see a T40 on the bay last week that the seller said had a 34 inch scale (that is 24, right?) but it was ending in an hour and I'm so broke right now I don't even know how I am paying attention for that matter. LOL... I will go back through completed auctions and see if that one was a 20+ fret monster...yea T40s are 'monsters' 'anvils' 'pigs' 'brutes'... I couldn't play mine standing up for more then 20 minutes before my left shoulder would sag and I'd start leaning to the left. LOL...I had almost a 6 inch wide leather strap for that monster and I just couldn't stand up and play it long...that is the biggest thing thats making me question getting one back. THE WEIGHT. LOL

T-40's have 20 frets, T-45's and T-20's have 21 frets. If you saw a T-40 with more frets it must have had a different neck stuck on it :)

It says it's a T-20 but with a single T-40/45 pickup in the T-40 bridge location :confused:


Anyway...........

I have another old Peavey on the way. A NORMAL T-20 that I picked up from the bay. It will be here on the 26th :bassist:

I'll be keeping an eye out for a T-45 in '08 :hyper: I want to have a T bass trio.

I had a T20 and really miss it. sold it when I thought I had too many basses and this was the most neglected. Remember trying about 4 different sets of strings and strangely, I ran into a set of SIT power flats in the classifieds and this did the trick for this bass. Looking forward to becoming a member of the Peavey Club. Looking possibly for a T45 or a Foundation S. :hyper::hyper:

Thanks for the corrections!! I am very eager to learn it all the right way this time around and the tech aspects of basses in general was something I was pretty ignorant on the first time around playing. Yes, I could play pretty darn good if I say so myself but I was stupid with my instrument, if you know what I mean.

And well that narrows down my choices on my 3rd bass. What I loved the most about the T40 was all the sounds you could get out of one, just amazing, but the weight really bothered me and maybe I did have a modified one (I got mine out of a pawn shop in the early 80s)..It was a peavey and the headstock was Peavey.. I dunno...theres also a chance I remembered it wrong too. LOL that does happen to everyone.

So now I'm leaning more toward that red 5 string foundation. Or I could go ahead and put another 5 string millennium on lay away at my music shop if they have any. I like the neck on the foundation and the neck on that millennium was so sweet. I guess its a matter of personal taste here? Or can anyone give any recommendations either way to me?

Have you considered the G series?? They come in a 35" 4 or 5 string. Graphite neck, awesome pickups and pre. I think there's one for sale down below right now. A VERY unsung, sleeper of a bass!!!

I will check them out. The only peavey Ive had any experience with was that T40 and now this Foundation...and the brief time I took that millennium for a test drive at the shop. Are foundations made any more? And heres another silly question probably; I like my axes black, this foundation is red, would it be easier to have it redone in black or just buy one already black? Hope that wasn't too stupid of a question. I am odd I guess, I am very picky on how my basses look; black with looong necks are my preference. But Im looking over at my Foundation right now and it is a nice looking bass for sure just as it is. ^_^ (and it seems I always make exceptions for what I like in appearance for a Peavey LOL)

I picked up a T-20 for my daughter for XMas. It's missing the pickup mounting ring/thumbrest but I contacted Chip Todd (the designer and the "T" of the Peavey T-series) and he's going to send me one. I've got some Webstrings flats coming for it, too. Non-original knobs but they're functional. I played it last weekend at our band practice and it sounded great. Almost hate giving it to her. :)

Dude! Your pic of your red Foundation 4 and 5 is exactly what I'm considering doing right now! But of course nothing seems easy for me. LOL I just found a nice '00 platinum Warlock bass for the same money as the red foundation 5 I'm looking at right now as well ... GAH!!!! I can only go for one... :crying:

Screw the Warlock- get the Peavey! Stick with the classics- especially if you're just coming back into the groove...

My humble and oft-misaligned .02...

That's cool!! I actually don't care for the pickup ring, I'll probably end up taking mine off. I'm also considering a Villex P pup and tone control for mine. Just a thought, I'll have to spend some time with the stock pup first!

Short and to the point and it cut through the fog of the glazed eyes looking at the Warlock right now. :p My Bat is nice and smooth for someone just getting back into the groove, But my Foundation 4 is like coming home. What better way to get back into it and finally grab a 5, but with a classic. Thanks :D

I rest my thumb on the pickup when I play fingerstyle so it was sitting on the top corner of the pickup. It worked ok but I'd prefer the wider flat top of the thumbrest.

DEFINITELY spend some time with the stock pickup before you replace it! I love the sound of this one! It's got kind of a hot P-bass sound. Thumpy, solid mids, nice top end...plus it looks really different and cool. No way I'd replace this one.

Thanks Count Bassie, so do I. :) I love how much the white pickguard has yellowed with age. I'll leave it up to my daughter to decide what she wants to do about the knobs. I've got a few around that she can choose from or I might try to find some originals. Check around on CL and eBay. These turn up frequently and usually go pretty cheap. I got this one for $100, which is stupid cheap for a vintage (it's an '83) US-made bass. The Fury bass is another one to look for. It had the slightly smaller P-style body and came with either the super ferrite pickup (like this one) or a standard P pickup.
