In addition to the unusually wide pickup spacing,the bass has a very narrow neck,combined with a very flat fretboard radius. It’s quite an atypical feel,but after a few minutes I found it to be really easy and comfortable to play. I took it to band rehearsal and played it for several hours. Love the super simple passive controls, the blend pot works great for getting all the in-between sounds from those pickups.
And the pickups are super powerful,with a lot of grunt and clear top end, they almost sound like active pickups. (I think they sound better than most actives in fact,using my Spector/emg for comparison).
I’ve never been a fan of gold hardware on maple or other light color woods,so I’ve bought a black Hipshot Kickass bridge,black Gotoh tuning keys,black aluminum knobs,and lastly black strap buttons to replace the originals. I’ve already swapped out the keys myself,but I’m letting a very good guitar tech swap out the bridges,so he can also do the set up.
Here’s a pic of the new keys.

It looks great and makes the Peavey black lettering pop, too.
Thanks! Yeah,it started when i stuck 2 black knobs i had on,and realizing how much better they looked against that caramel amber body. I don’t like big Fender tele-type knobs on anything.
Since it also had big black pickups,ebony fretboard, black trc and lettering,I started thinking hmmm.
I agree that it looks much better with black hardware. I played my Dyna 5 in church and was pleased at how much it sounds like a 5 string version of a Palaedium. I played it in passive mode so the controls are the same as a Palaedium...master volume, blend and passive tone. It kills and has a wonderful sounding B string. It also has black hardware!
This group has been great at helping me rediscover how great some of the USA Peavey basses are (I had a very nice Koa PJ Dyna Bass in the late 80’s), but has also helped me to find and check out some basses I hadn’t played before.
That being said, is anyone looking to move either a B-Quad or a Palaedium?

I wish ! BQuad's are so hard to find. I have one and I'm looking for a working preamp ; A feat that seems impossible at this point.
I think Chuck just sold a Palaedium.
Those koa Unity basses are very cool !!! So cool you rediscovered the magic of USA Peavey basses.
There is a Palaedium for sale on Reverb right now. Looks to be in real nice shape but to me I think it's priced high.
I could be wrong though.

They sound incredible just as a passive pickup, can’t imagine them with active seasoning.
I also had a koa Dyna Unity bass years ago, guess that was Peavy’s version of a Spector, with the curved body wings. That was a really great bass.
WOW that thing is MINTY ! Seems like a high price, but like you, I don't know. When you compare it to other basses, it seems on par, but Peavey's charm has always been affordability.

So cool ! I'm glad you're the new owner of Chuck's Jeff Berlin. As we know, he has the nicest basses.
I BELIEVE the pickups in the Jeff Berlin Palaedium are the same as the Foundation pickups - Single coil in a VFL case.
The active ones are humbuckers with microchips in them requiring 9v and 9v for the preamp, hence 18v system. Those are on the BQuad, Cirrus, etc. Those are called VFL's. (Vertical Flux Loading) whatever that means !
If I'm wrong, I know I'll be corrected by another gear geek.
That is SO gorgeous. I have the SAME Hipshot bridge on one of my basses. I love it !
I thought the Palaedium pickups were quad coil design, (?),
which is why i was wondering if a bass named Bquad had the same type pickups. Just curious really...I’m very impressed with the sound of these pickups.

I had a Koa RSB bass that had two VFL's and did not take a battery, ran passive.
They were definitely not Foundation type Super Ferrites in the VFL cover.
Edit* the RSB Bass had VFL's that did take a battery, my memory was slipping.
