I think the real test of a bass's sound is in a band situation. Does it cut through and blend well at the same time ? The weird thing is in a band sitation most basses end up sounding pretty much the same.

The bass arrived and had very bad ski jump in the neck. Someone had cranked on the micro tilt to lower the action when the neck itself had forward bow and needed a truss rod adjustment. The neck was toast and the condition of the body such that calling it "fair" would be generous. It was certainly not "good".

I returned it to my local GC and they refunded all my money including shipping charges. Nice. Then they immediately put it back up for sale listed as "good" condition. Someone bought it right away.

Earlier today that same bass again showed up on GC's website, no doubt returned the second time, and again was $199 and listed as good condition. Guess what? It sold right away. Someone is in for a disappointment.

Now I have scored some nice basses for great prices of GC's website but this is the third time they are selling the same bass that is unplayable. When I returned it I showed the guy why I was returning it and he agreed that the neck was bad. I am a good guitar tech so I know that nothing short of some serious work on that neck could have corrected the problems it has.

The good news is that if you buy a lemon bass from them you can return it to a local GC for a full refund. Hey, I got a shipping box out of the deal.

Hey Family !
So I am the guy who bought the Foundation for $199. It was really weird. The FIRST thing that went through my mind was, "Why is this bass still here ? Did Chuck oversleep or go into work early ?" I'm serious. That was 1st thought.

Then, I went to buy it. 1st card got rejected for some reason. I thought, "This is a sign". STOP! I ignored it. 2nd card Failed AGAIN ! No good reason. Ignored. Then I figured just use PayPal. It went through.

Literally, two hours later I see this post. I thought I KNEW I should've listened to my instincts and what the Universe was telling me but I was ignoring.

So, I called Guitar Center and quoted the Reader's Digest version of the Talkbass thread, of which there's NO WAY I could've known it was returned 3 times already otherwise. Not that Patrick (sales manager who I spoke to who was AMAZING !) ever even asked for a reason, but I offered it. Like always, Guitar Center has the BEST customer service and the order was cancelled before it went out for delivery.

Well, that is good news. Now we wait to see if it shows up on their site again. Price including shipping was about $243 for me and I suppose it could have been parted out for at least that much. It is sad that a bass that needed some expert attention and a minor truss rod tweak was made unplayable by someone that did not understand proper set up procedures.

( Referring to the Foundation above) Is parting it out really worth the time and effort of shipping, labor, etc ? Not really. I HOPE GC just takes it as a loss and a learning experience, but since they've been on the verge of bankruptcy for a long time now, I doubt it. We'll see. I feel sorry for the next buyer, and it better NOT be a TB'er !

That's the truth, we're all sure. Someone will either not notice it and think Peavey's suck (saddens me to think that), or someone will replace the neck, which is most likely and if you think about it, a case, loaded mohagony Foundation for $199 is a good deal, still, so GC is the house, and the house always wins. They probably stole it from the seller for a bill.

They just do not care.
I recently bought a never played 2019 Squier '50s Precision that some dummy screwed for good.
Unfortunately, he put a tort guard on it that was for a '51 slab body (way too big)...the pickguard hung over the edges of the body, it was ridiculous.
Instead of returning it, the owner drilled all new mounting holes really close to the edge of the contoured body, so if you put the original pickguard on the holes would show.
I returned it and explained, and they politely listened and then sold it again the same day.
They don't care.

Wasn't me, but if it pops back up on GC, I may buy it next time.

The body has significant wear from being slapped a lot by someone with fingernails. The area under the 1st string is gouged out pretty bad.
