U.S. Peavey Club

They do this all over the country as standard operating procedure.
You can return any bass and tell them any (true) horror story about the bass and they will re-list it and re-sell it until somebody keeps it.
I've been through this a dozen times with them.
They_ just_ do_ not_ care.

This has not been my experience.

Just like Home Depot, some stores have a stunning personality.

If you were able to return it, that's fair enough isn't it?

I prefer MusicGoRound, due to their franchise model, they do not have the same options as a national chain.

This is the cold hard truth.

I have called GC prior to making purchases and have asked very detailed questions about the status and condition of a used instrument. Each purchase has ended in a let down because the rep blatantly lied. How in the #$@%! do you tell a customer everything works and then ship a bass with a broken pickup? How do you miss the serious fret ware? The gash in the finish? Take bad photos, no photos, or mislabel a product in 2020? Let's not get started on how bad their sister company -- Musicians Friend is. Shipping bad products in lousy packaging...

A good local experience doesn't vouch for bad corporate practices. We call that a "character flaw". A good return policy is no replacement for time and resources. Buy once -> Cry once.

I guess it’s there way of getting back some $$ loss due to people that use GC, Reverb, and others for gear “borrowing”. I have no respect for people who buy, play, and enjoy gear, then decide they want their money back and abuse the return policy, or Reverb’s buyer protection policies, to get it.
This was a huge issue when I worked at the retail store. We had a 7 day return policy, so guys would buy a guitar on Thursday, return it Monday. It was more than obvious that they had used it at a show all weekend and just wanted their money back. Grime, sweat, beer all over it. Smells like as ashtray, and the new strings are already tarnished.

Full refund? No dice dude, check the receipt. All returns are subject to a 10% restocking fee. I hope that $2K PRS you borrowed for the weekend made you more than the $200 it's going to cost you. Might seem like a di@k move from the store, but it covers their expense to have me go over it and get it ready for sale as a 'demo' model.

The restocking fee was only used in cases like this. We usually gave a full refund if it was clear the person took it home and just didn't work for them.

Music stores could seriously nip this in the bud by instituting a rental system. They could have a checklist of use and condition, and charge fee's for returning damaged or abused gear. People who want to own vs those who rent should be obvious to the music market by now. The generous return policy and extended retailer warranty do nothing to help the business. Warranties should hold the manufacturer accountable, while retailers get wise about good customer service. I know GC is trying to build a scammer retardant system but, in the long run, it hurts everybody.

The retail store I worked for had a full rental policy for years, but it just got too expensive to maintain everything. Drums, PA, guitars/bass and amps, the works.

They still do band instrument rentals, I might rent my kid a trumpet from them in the future. For practice volume sake, I hope he sticks with guitar and bass.

The rental guitars were basic stuff. A USA Strat is not as showy on stage as a brand new PRS Custom 22.

I could understand the cost, not to mention the number of hours that goes into repairs. For top-shelf gear like PRS's and such, I'd tell customers they could buy a somewhat costly non-refundable warranty, contact the manufacture, or go kick rocks.

People that abuse the return system like this should be barred from doing business.

Back in the day, it seemed like there was a lot more rentals going on. My first bass and amp were rentals in the early 80's from a local music store.
My parents did a rent-to-own bass for my older sister when we were kids. 1992 MIM Pbass brand new from the same chain I later worked at. Not a bad deal and my dad still has the bass. They didn't rent anything for me, I had to buy all my own gear. Gee, thanks dad!

I think rentals and layaway reflect a time before (seemingly) everyone had credit cards. Straight up, cash-based budgeting!
As far as extended return periods, I feel that people should get dinged a restocking fee when it's obvious that a purchase was really a rental for a weekend show, leg of tour, recording session. I have worked enough shops to spot the obvious.

It HAD to be Chuck who bought that GORGEOUS Jeff Berlin from GC Used. OMG I went to buy it and it's sold. ONLY $448 ...Early worm ...

I saw the ad before the pictures turned up on their site.. and moved right along to look at the red Patriot, much more in my wheelhouse. :)
Speaking of Patriots, I've been practicing this week on mine and... new love found. I actually was within a whisker of selling it...for a profit of course. They guy backed out because he didn't want to drive half way. I'm glad he didn't.

They are light, simple, have great necks, and a unique sound not found in any offering from any other brand, I like mine with flats.
This morning, I was thinking of buying a second one to add a stacked two-band EMG Pre-amp into.
The unique sound is an interesting thing...
Fender is known for the sound of the single coil 51P, the split P Precision and the Jazz bass after all the years they have been in business.
I'm not knocking Fender, I love those sounds and they have been a great company for a long, long time.
Musicman has a reputation for basically one bass, an awesome one.
Meanwhile Peavey has a unique sound not found in any other brand with the T40, T45, T20, Patriot, Foundation, Dyna, Axcellerators, Cirrus, G bass, B Quad, Millennium.
It's a shame that they were not able to continue making USA made basses... especially their basses.
It's a loss not having them around to keep innovating and creating outside the box.
I feel like G&L has been creative in their designs over the years too.

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of that and personally wouldn't do that just to try something. But at the same time, if the seller leaves themselves open to that then someone is always going to abuse it.

What's that bass in your avatar Jedi? I just noticed it....duh
It’s a Carl Pedigo, semi-retired Lakland luthier. He’s become a real friend over the years, and still builds custom Laklands for celebs and will hopefully be building another custom for me after my wedding next year gets paid for LOL.

If that bass is the worm, then I'm the bird!! I hit "add to cart" and "complete order" quicker than Jeff Berlin can start an argument!

Good for you. It was already gone when I saw the ad.

It was an expensive day for me anyway because I scored a like new in the case with the hang tags Cirrus 6 from a friend.

SWEET !!!!! That bass is SOOOOooo sick and a bargain. I'm SOOoo glad a TB Peavey brother got it !!! I swear, GC Used should just have a Talkbass Peavey Club Private Membership website dedicated to us. We're gonna buy them all, anyway ! :)

Thanks dude! What made this purchase extra sweet was that earlier in the week I took delivery of a Cort Jeff Berlin that I had found used. It was damaged during shipping and I was so bummed. If the Cort hadn't have been damaged there is no way I would've been looking at GC! Serendipity I say! :)

I think the Palaedium has an especially unique sound, too!
