I totally agree, Eric. Ebay is THE best place for parts. I've bought and endless list of parts over the years for all types of basses. All my Cirrus black hardware is from Ebay. It's all made in China, but WHO CARES ! It's EXACTLY the same as ABM bridge and only $25 bucks. I also buy a ton of Wilkinson parts. I LOVE them !!! Super good quality at bargain basement prices.

I've had some cheaper stuff from China, but I prefer Hipshot or ABM. To me, it's worth the extra $, and I usually try to scrounge up some kind of sale or deal.

Was bumbling around Wikipedia and found a nice picture of Canned Heat’s Larry Taylor playing a T-40.

I typically trust TB's classifieds more than the others but I have had two purchases that have had neck issues. One I handled myself and another cost me some money to get corrected. So while I still think TB is your best bet there are still some questionable guys here as well but they are few and far between.

My Peavey collection is growing. I'm trying to hold out on the ones I REALLY want, all USA, of course, and only.
Just got my "new" Peavey RJIV Randy Jackson. (No signed Samurai Sword, though.)
Pics or it didn't happen.
My FAVORITE color ; Gunmetal Gray, a Drop D (which I have on all my basses, so it was meant to be !, AND the original manual ! OH, AND the rear battery cover intact. Case, of course, too !!! I RULE ! (Kevin Spacey, American Beauty referring to his purchase of a Camaro while smoking a doob.)

Love these basses! Nice score! There was one just like it on Reverb recently...it was REALLY hard for me not to buy. Funny cause the color was the reason I didn't jump on it...glad you dig the gunmetal gray though! There was a Koa RJ for sale here on TB...not sure if its still listed. Congrats!

question to B Quad owners: do you guys find yourself using the micro tilt to compensate for lack of saddle height adjustment?

I'm in the process of sourcing a replacement bridge to restore original 19 mm spacing for a five string version. Has Graphtech ghost preamp. Graphtech makes piezo saddles for both Hipshot and ABM style. The bass has ABM style sensors but these are about 2mm taller than Hipshot and adjust action on the piezo saddle. Trying to reuse Graphtech ghost preamp but not a must if there's a better system out there. Any preference between Hipshot A style and ABM piezo bridge?

I ditched mine and used a hipshot kickass

50-110 strings
No micro tilt

Thanks.

What i'm seeing is the kickass can make strings go right against the frets if wanted.

Is your 4 neck also dead straight when in natural tuning? Simple way to check is capo or finger at fret 1 and other finger at say fret 17.
When I first got the bass I had issues with it with 45 to 105 Strings and unless tuned Up a full step

i took it to someone who works on a friends zon basses all the time
We let the neck relax for a few weeks I believe and had a fret dress as well

I’m using 50-110 because my friend also said that could help with the neck

I just tried my best to measure it

I think it’s 0.6MM of relief ?if that makes sense lol
It does have an ever so slight curve but i always thought that was normal for the curvature and strings vibration pattern

i can lower the strings which I’m thinking I’ll do but I feel like string tension is a bit stiff
I haven’t messed with going. Back down a gauge for a few years now

Interesting, did read about back bow issues on Quads. If you're currently getting 0.6mm relief, seems to me there's some margin to reduce the gauge. Unless you have high spots which seems unlikely, your neck should function with zero relief with no buzzing so I would try to back down on the gauge or try balanced set from D'Addario comparing forces with the set you got. If that does not work, would try shimming the front end of the neck joint.

As for all bolt ons, there's manufacturing variability in the milling angle of the neck pocket (once had 2 G&L's 2000E's of the same year that required radically different bridge setting with the same neck relief to achieve comparable action).

I actually went ahead and run some measurement. Tilt retracted, bridge off, VFL's screwed in deep to clear the way for the ruler. Ruler against the frets (no rocking) -> ruler height from deck is ~10 mm on A and ~8 mm on B. tells me A style non piezo should work. Waiting to hear from Hipshot how much the Graphtech sensor will add to that.

Min string height spec of the Kickass match A style per Hipshot pdf's @ 10 mm.
