Hopefully the amount of people willing to participate in the paying way too much for peavey and driving the price up has lessened and soon us broke MFs can afford them again.

I can't believe how much people wa t for reactors that come with those horrible small shaft "squier" tuners like the predator. These were $199-249 brand new and I see some outrageous prices. I need to replace my stolen Tele, but can't spend much. Guess my Hundo or so will have to go to Harley Benton, firefly or glarry.

I take it these G basses on GC are priced a bit high? As in the "it's a modulus neck" myth is in the guitar center think tank?

I regret not snagging it and the Warwick and a couple guitars that weren't taken in the first break in, but at the time people were also getting into my boat and stealing things so that's why I left them there. Bad choice though but can't change it.

The neck fit super snug into the older SF body like they were precision fit to each other. The older neck into the newer VFL body had lots of play and it had to be pushed all the way to one side to line up. I made a makeshift shim from cut bread clips and business cards.

The fretted one is going to the next band practice for sure. Originally I wanted to bring it as the fretless but since I don't feel as confident on fretless since I have not been playing fretless since I left my old Korean squier p bass fretless project abandoned for at least 20 years (and I think they took that neck, but left the body, but I hope to find it in there when I finally deal with the rest of the ransacked storage).

Here are some pics, I didn't take any close pics of the original form of the new to me foundation, nor of the old one before I swapped necks, but I do have the CL ad pics and old pics of the VFL bass somewhere (or not as I lost many pics as well, phones stolen and gotten wet over the years)

I have a pic I took of my 91 fury and the new one sitting next to my rig before I decided to put the fretless away and just use the 2 furys for the band audition a few weeks ago, that I am including, and a pic of the "after" for each that I just took tonight. And the 4 pics from the CL ad of the black foundation as well, and the final thumbs are some pics of my 87 that I happened to have downloaded off of old facebook posts of it. Was the best $80 I spent on a bass ever. Don't think I will be lucky enough to have that happen again.

Since the 87 had a triangle string tree, I am pretty sure the new one is 88 or 89, straight 3 string tree and block foundation lettering with pointy peavey logo pinstripe headstock, my 91 has script fury and pointy/pinstripe.

I have wanted to eventually strip off the chipped up red paint and hope that the natural grain is not ugly mishmash of unmatched wood pieces. The black one has lots of dents from previous owners but they don't show the wood, so from a distance it looks ok. Since I can't afford the prices people want , I have to accept what I can get in my sub $100 finds. (I paid $140 for my 91 after I was beaten to the punch when it was up for $100 with a case, it was relisted by buyer and he kept the case and made $40, and I got a fury with titan tuners and 5 wire.) My red foundy was a whopping $40 with thrashed case (discussed here in 2016) and my heavy relic 92 was $72 also discussed here in 2016)

Dude! It sounds like a rough rough ride! I hope you're well and on the road to some state of normalness in your life even during covid. People are like rats at times feeding on others who are down on there luck, I hate it! People suck! Rats suck!
Those basses are cool, and if you love them and enjoy playing them then who cares if they're beat up! I sure don't. I hope you find your '87 too!

The only thing they share with VFLs is the cover. One is a passive single coil, the other is an active humbucker that is a sidewinder. I'd rather call them what they are, but then I don't make the rules.

So basically the fire bass only makes all of its power at 2 ohms
(700 watts)

most cabs are 8ohms or 4

my 412 is a 4 ohm cab and I wanted some more juice
I was just trying it out really but
My usual rig is the Aguilar below it but same concept


I’m taking the preamp out signal and pushing it into a crown XLS 1500 power amp bridged at 4 ohms
Making use of all 1500 watts into the cabinet

I looked it up and that Firebass is rated 475 W at 4 ohms. Losing 225 W sounds bad, but doing the math, that is just 1.7 dB quieter. At bass frequencies that is difficult for many people to even notice.

Now, going from 475 W to 1500 W is a 5 dB increase. While 5 dB is certainly louder, that won't sound anywhere near twice as loud. Twice as loud requires about a 10 dB increase, or about 5,000 W into the 412.

Alternatively, if you wired another 412 cabinet in parallel with the original and hooked all that to the Firebass you would get a 4.7 dB increase -- effectively the same volume driving your 4x12 with the Crown. Unfortunately, you would have to haul another 4x12 but the drivers would thank you, each being driven with 88 W instead of 375 W.

As they’ve been there for months that should tell them the market is telling them they are overpriced. I totally agree $500 is more realistic for sure. I’ve been watching them hopeful that at least one of them would get marked down. If one popped up at $450 It would be impossible to pass up. With GC hope always springs eternal as the deals are often killer. You just need to check frequently before they get snatched up.

From what I know, they generally base the price on what else they have on their site, so it doesn’t surprise me a snowball of $600 Basses happened. I’m also pretty sure their markdown period is after 6 months, but that’s by no means a hard rule.

You're right, that's how GC prices go too high or too low...somebody prices something out of whack and the next person just looks for the last price of the same item.
If the first of the G Basses in this current batch had been $375 they all would be that price right now. I generally just wait for them to make mistakes in the right direction.

I have wondered, too. It's gotta be the description, or lack thereof. Maybe when asked specific questions they don't answer? $350 for a 62 Blue Foundation is a steal.
