Just got my first Fury today. I saw this one on Reverb, made a very low offer of $300 just for kicks and it was accepted.
Peavey Fury 1991 Cream

It was by far one of the dirtiest basses I’d ever seen, and was surprised someone would sell it like that. But, it was a bargain, so after a few hours of taking things apart, soaking all the rusty hardware in vinegar, cleaning the body and neck, polishing the frets, etc., I ended up with a really nice bass. I was surprised to see how much the original white that’s still under the pickguard had aged into a nice cream color.

It plays really well with nice low action and sounds great. You gotta love these USA Peaveys that for some strange reason sell for such short money.

If I come across some black hardware that fits right, I may swap the chrome out, but don’t know if Peavey offered it?

Cool fury, now you just need a truss rod cover for it ;)

Also, a quick thing you can do to make it feel a little better to play, is slack out the strings, loosen the neck bolts some, and pull the neck a bit toward the treble side to align the strings more toward the center of the neck. It looks pretty off-kilter in your pics, and is an easy fix.

  • Truss rod cover is back on. I took the picture when I was setting it up.
  • The neck is seated correctly. The angle of that picture and the bass leaning against the cabinet made the E look like it was falling off the neck.

  • I don't know how I didn't notice the G string had moved under the string tree. :meh: I must have been in too much of a hurry to get some clean strings on it and try it out.
  • The strap button move was done by me. After playing Status basses in the 90's and only using their lower strap buttons, I just found the basses hanging more horizontally was a much more comfortable playing position for me. Just a personal preference and I've moved them down on my other basses.

Nice! I love my nearly identical 87 black Patriot! Yours is very close in age to mine, my serial # is 0280... It's been super stable, toneful and reliable. I did mod it with another SF and Hipshot Xtender, just because I can't leave anything alone and I wanted an anti-Rickenbacker. haha.
I have been keeping an eye out for another with a wide nut neck, preferably with the black headstock, but that seems to be unicorn rare. No biggie, I do like mine as is.
