@Emanuel Apascaritei, that is perfect for acoustic jams etc. Is it a PC PSU in it? Whats the sound like?

yes, it´s PC psu. I know it sound ridiculous but I putted it against a loud drummer in open air. The drummer told me I had to lower a volume a little bit because I was too loud. It´s only 100w rms (2x50W). And sounds pretty hifi. I was inspired by Phil Jones Bass when I built it. I was looking for a really portable light combo with enough power to use as a monitor.

I really like it. You now have me looking at drivers that may work for a similar setup! ;)
 
Some scrap plywood, a 6" mid left over from a Carvin cab, some black spray paint, and made a high pass x-over to get a quick and dirty "bright box" that actually sounds pretty decent sitting atop a 3015LF loaded cab. Next version will be a cleaner box, built in two-way crossover with woofer out.

Alright, here is a link with the Sketchup file (includes cut sheet) and some short instructions. It's not a step by step guide and you will have to read the dimensions from Sketchup but it should be enough to be able to reproduce the cab. The instructions include the Hornresp data if you want to tinker with different drivers.

Thanks Thomas, I can always use an excuse to work with different modeling software. If I ever get back to the cab side of DIY horn loaded woofers would be a fun thing to explore, for sure. I'd love to hear more about your practice amp build too.

With my own cabs I haven't tried any passive crossovers below 450Hz or so -- I just go to biamping at that point. With the various single-6 cabs I've built, anywhere from 500-700Hz has been a nice sweet spot, but that's just with my particular top boxes. Horn loading the 6ND410 did indeed make the crossover to my tweeter less problematic. Still a pretty big mess though...Link Removed

I finally finished up the acoustic felt panels next to the tweeter horn, where the ugly foam was, need to get a new pic of that. Always some new rabbit hole!

Nice top. Would you mind sharing how you mated that midrange with that horn?

I'll poke around and see if I did any pics of the mating hardware, if not I will take some the next time I have the top box apart. I basically used big old fender washers that straddle the lip of the JBL horn lens back, and 4 long scews mounted to the wood sub-enclosure at the bottom of this pic:

The low pass for the woofer is also in this box, so the amp plugs into the top box and a short Speakon to Speakon cable runs to the woofer box. If I want to run two woofers I just need to swap a few jumpers to set up biamp mode. I've also contemplated installing a Hypex plate amp in the top box, but 'm obviously already well into overkill mode here!

@Passinwind I guess my curiosity was based on an incorrect assumption. I didn't realize that JBL made a waveguide for a 6.5" driver.

You sure didn't cut any corners there. Nice work.

Thanks for the kind words. Both the tweeter and mid horns are from the PRX series 3-way cabs, so the acoustic centers and radiation patterns are theoretically pretty closely matched. I think JBL may have stopped selling these to DIY'ers, but they were a great deal at the time I bought mine. The mid horn needs a fair amount of damping sheet applied for best results though, FWIW. I've seen a few other pretty nice looking mid horns in my Interweb travels too, but pricing seems to be all over the map.
