underated overrated bassists

underrated: Colin Greenwood (Radiohead, listen to Myxomatosis, Paranoid Android, Weird Fishes/Arpeggi), Im gonna go out on a limb and say Paul McCartney. Especially in the music world a lot of people look pass his playing, which is quite complex at times (Nowhere Man, I Saw Her Standing There) and yet he blends it with a dab of simplicity (Dear Prudence, anything off Abbey Road).

Overrated: Gene Simmons. Why hasn't anyone mentioned that tool yet?

Under-rated: mike oldfield. I guess he isn`t even rated.. see my thread here about him
under-rated: chris novoselic of Nirvana. (no he isnt just playing the chords of cobain..) listen to songs like lounge act off of nevermind.

I agree that Jaco is overrated, and yes, I have listened and listened trying to hear what the legend is all about...no doubt an excellent player, but his status as a "bass god" is lost on me.

No Voodoo doll punishments please...it's just my opinion.

Underrated: I've mentioned him several times, but few probably even know who he is. Felipe Andreoli of the band ANGRA is an absolutely amazing bassist. He has blistering chops and the good taste not to over-play.

Marshall Grant is underrated!

And i am going to get flamed but Jaco is overrated.

I agree jimmyM is..................next week I'll be................in 2 weeks you'll be...............in 3 weeks its HIM! HIM! F...! HIM.
Why do some people think that musicians must be a " whos best" contest. Musicians who don't move me in anyway have millions of fans that think their great!!! Its as if musicians have become clowns with painted faces and costume designed outfits. Show business and musicianship is a fine line I hope the listeners understand that theres good musicians that can be apart of both but the truely great ones don't venture into gimmicks and parading. Ofcourse abusing some elements can make any good man a sad man too. Doc

Underrated - Carlos D. from Interpol(although he said he HATED playing bass, still created some nice grooves

Duff Mckagan and his groovy, conplimenting bass lines.

Overrated? I don't really know...

Man, I just don't understand some of you guys... Flea and Jaco underrated? Puh-LEEZ!! Both those guys revolutionized bass playing... not so much FLEA, but the guy is pretty damn good!

Overrated: Michael Anthony. THAT'S overrated. ...and Gene Simmons, but he's more of a showman/businessman who happens to play bass.

Underrated: Graham Maby & Bruce Thomas ...and have a soft spot for Mike Dirnt.
