Double Bass unscientfic

And I have used them all on gigs before. They all work well and I feel like I base my choice about what to take more on volume and schlep distance than tone. They all have their merits besides the raw tone too.

I hope this little unscientific experiment has shed some light on the subject for people in the search. Besides feedback about my tone I want everyone to be able to benefit from the stupid amount of money I've spent in the search thus far. Hopefully I can save someone a few bucks.

progess report

So in living with these combinations over the past few I've decided that the MBX is not full range enough. In my basement it's cool but on a gig it lacks too much bite. It is really hard to beat the power and size but it lacks a little too much detail.

I've been using almost all mic (Beta 57A) with a little pickup to fill out the sound. This setup really depends on a cab with a pretty detailed sound. The Wizzy M works great. For something small I actually have a little speaker I built with a 10" driver and a horn. It is basically a small pa cab. Usually I'm allergic to tweeters because they seem to bring out the artificial sounding stuff from pickups but when using a mic it really helps.

I'll try to post some clips when I get a chance to record a gig.

Just thought you'd find it humorous that I got tired of messing with my setup AGAIN (I even tried some other pickups) and am back to the Realist - GK thing. How many times is that now?

Next time one of these threads pops up I'll give you my address and anyone is welcome to come steal whatever I'm messing with. Sheesh.
