unusual music you're into

ok...i work with this guy, very smart talented corporate guy unfortunately he is bipolar and a little unstable. One day i asked him what music he was into and i gave him a USB stick....and he dumped a heap of music i had never heard off...i have been trolling through it and now on the train to work i chill out and listen to this, i really have no idea what sort of music it is but it sort of takes you away to another place , you guys in the states may know them...

DCD is cool - some of their stuff is hit or miss for me, but there was a time I was listening regularly to them. Not sure if what he gave you le and mostly on the new age-y side of things, or the 'goth' side, but there were a bunch of comps released by labels like 4AD in the 80s and 90s that covered this part of the spectrum. My favorite band of that time was Swans. Their early stuff was bordering on noise, but their later tracks were mostly instrumental, and very listenable, in my opinion.

Swans is not that unusual at all. But then again, who is to judge what's unusual and what isn't?

Everything is relative, of course. I don't find Swans unusual, but for someone who finds DCD unusual, I thought that it would be something that they might find interesting.

Also, considering that Swans released Filth when Madonna was on the charts with Borderline and Lucky Star, I would say that it was "unusual" for its time:

I've been listening to them for a year or so. I never thought they were "out there," but they definitely were not as well known last year as they are now with that Grammy under their belts.
