The English Beat's song 'All Out to Get You' features the line 'Lose your fingers or worse in a lathe on the night shift'. It was the replacement saxophonist, Wesley Magoogan, who more-or-less suffered that fate, cutting his fingers off in an accident with a circular saw. He did have them sewn back, but was no longer able to play, which ended his career.
Funny....listening to R.E.M. and Michael Stipe gives ME a nasty headache....Go figure....

Tom Jones went on to be knighted sometime after recording the hit Delilah. A little known fact about this recording is that another future knight of the realm sang on it, Elton John. According to Philip Norman's biography, Sir Elton, times were hard for the then-aspiring superstar, and he took whatever session work he could get, becoming in this case an indistinguishable voice in the chorus behind the melodramatic Tom Jones #2 smash hit single "Delilah."

Charles Weedon Westover (December 30, 1934 – February 8, 1990), better known by his stage name Del Shannon, was an American rock and roll country musician, singer and songwriter, best known for his 1961 number-one Billboard hit "Runaway".
In 1963, he became the first American to record a cover version of a song by the Beatles: his version of "From Me to You" charted in the U.S. before the Beatles' version.
Shannon had a resurgence of popularity after re-recording "Runaway" with new lyrics as the theme for the NBC-TV program Crime Story. In 1988, Shannon sang "The World We Know" with the Smithereens on their album Green Thoughts. Two years later, he recorded with Jeff Lynne of the Electric Light Orchestra, and there were rumors he would join the Traveling Wilburys after the death of Roy Orbison. Previously, in 1975, Shannon had recorded tracks with Lynne, along with "In My Arms Again", a country song he wrote and recorded for Warner Bros. Records, which had signed Shannon in 1984.
The career of Del Shannon was at its zenith in the early 1960s, when he recorded some of the best American pop music of the entire decade. Much of his later work didn’t find the audience it deserved, but in later life, he made a warmly-received comeback with the help of a great admirer of his early work, none other than Tom Petty.
The album that Petty produced for Shannon, the fine, spirited Drop Down And Get Me, entered the Billboard 200 chart on December 12, 1981. It was only Del’s second album chart entry in his entire career, and first since Little Town Flirt reached No.12 all of 18 years earlier, in 1963.
Del had a lot of great songs and Albums and worked with a lot of great Musicians but unfortunately, he suffered from depression and took his own life at the age of 55.
In 1999, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Jeanne Tripplehorn, the actress best known for roles in movies such as "Basic Instinct", "The Firm" and "Waterworld", is the daughter of Tom Tripplehorn, who made a name for himself playing guitar with Gary Lewis and the Playboys and Leon Russell.

Kim Kerrigan, the wife of Who drummer Keith Moon (and mother of his daughter Amanda), was also married to Small Faces keyboard player Ian McLagan.
I was going to see McLagan live for the first time in December 2014 as he was slated to open for Nick Lowe, backed by Los Straitjackets, on their first holiday tour. Sadly, he passed away from a stroke less than a week before the tour started. I still have the tour shirt with him on it. All profits from the shirt were donated to the Artist Wellness Program, a charity Ian supported.

Don't know if Tom Jones could be considered "rock," but I only learned recently that he has been happily married throughout his entire career.
