Doug told this tail at the TBGT at my house.....when Doug Wimbish recorded the bass tracks for Sugar Hill records he was paid by the track. Although songs like Apache sold millions he was paid 50 bucks for creating and performing the bass lines. He got 50 bucks for each finished track. He used to try and do MANY songs in one day to earn enough to make rent!!
In Paperback Writer by the Beatles, the backing vocals sing Frère Jacques. In Girl, the backing vocals in the middle sing Tit over and over again.

"Against All Odds" won the Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Performance, Male in 1985, was nominated for Song of the Year and for an Academy Award as well as for a Golden Globe both in the Best Original Song categories. This song (for better or worse) was all over radio that year.
However, for the Academy Awards ceremony, the producers didn't think Collins himself was appealing enough, so he was not invited to sing his own song for the show. Instead, he sat in the audience as a dancer named Ann Reinking gave a mostly lip-synced vocal performance accompanied by a dance routine. Reinking's performance was poorly received.

It's been a while since I thought about the "27" phenomenon. Sadly, add my bass hero Gary Thain to that list as well.
In I think 1966, maybe '67, at a "Love In" at the UNM (University of New Mexico) campus. I was in a band " The Rugs of Woods and Flowers" the 8:00AM warm up band for the all day concert "Love In". The "MC" began announcing the bands for the day. The headliner was a band called "The Spiders". He proceeded to tell the crowd all day that "The Spiders" had a sensational new female singer named Alice Cooper....Well Alice did the chicken head thing that night.
The Boyd sisters both had Top 40 hits written to/about them. The first was "Jennifer Juniper" written about Jenny Boyd and a hit for Donovan. And, as most know, "Layla" was written by Clapton about Pattie Boyd.

For those that remember Ram Jam's Black Betty cover, the guy singing it had been a member of the Lemon Pipers. Their hit was Green Tambourine. Ram Jam's 2nd record is pretty good rock/metal for the late 70's.
