Unusual tuning

these guys already told you the notes. but if i were you id round up about 30 bucks and get a chromatic tuner. theres not really any limitations like what tuning you play in and whether its a bass or guitar. it simply displays the closest note and how far you are from that note. korg makes a great chromatic tuner.

+1! For sure, get one. I bought one about 10 years ago and havent used a standard tuner since. I use a headstock tuner made by fender now. It is also chromatic and quite wonderful and convenient. No pedals to take space up on my board or rack units, no trying to balance a tuner on my knee or the top of my amp. It has an LED screen that lights up too so I can see it in the dark with ease and turns bright green when the note is right in tune. Great tuner.

After reading this thread I am going to ask my guitar player in my band now if he would like to try to start playing in flats. I used to do that in an old band I used to be in and I loved the way the music sounded. It did sound better to my ears than standard. :hyper:

I tune g#beadgc and all of my tuners indicate when I play the g# In some way. My rack mount tuner says g# but my pod hd I use for practicing says Ab I believe. Depending on your tuner it may read differently. For the tuning your wanting... It might say Bb,Eb,Ab,Db,Gb or it could say A#,D#,G#C#,f#. They are actually the same tuning using using different terminology.

hey nik, congrats on your new band. Ijust got in to a cover band recently too but they do have some originals. For one song i'll tune ADADB and that gives a nice range to play with, but I have noticed that the b-string is a little more sesitive to tension changes and have to compromise for fret buzz

My tuner says neither lol. I have to hit the flat button once, then let tuning until it reads standard tunings.

What kind of tuner do you have again? If you don't have a chromatic, I'd invest in one. I have a headstock clip on one that fender makes. It's great, accurate and very convenient. Well worth the, I think it was, the $30 I spent on it.
