Updated Amazon Deals

The red Lakland AJ has had 9 units in stock since the price started dropping a month ago at a rate of around $25 every 3 or 4 days. (thank you, camelcamelcamel.com!)

It's very likely that the price will keep dropping if everyone holds off buying.

If it hits the same percentage off of retail that the silver 55-60 did, the price will drop to around $865.

How can I argue with logic like that?!?!

Ok, you've convinced me! :D

You came in way too late on this to have the necessary background and I'm not in the relieving ignorance biz on TalkBass anymore for people who don't want to search threads. Too much work, not enough pay. ;)

From today's PMs (and the tip of the iceberg):

And yet you've repeatedly bought stuff from them even after all the crap? Keeping the hope alive? :D They did used to have some really great deals. Haven't seen much in the last year or so.

Yeah, there hasn't been squat for a long time.

Anyway, it was risk-free. I sent a ton of it back when it was junk.

On several occasions, I had as many as four (4) examples trying to get enough parts swapped around to make one decent, in-spec, undamaged unit and sent the others back. Seriously.

I got some dinged-up percussion stuff that was resealed three times in trashed boxes with big Da-Glo stickers on them that said, "SELL ONLY TO AMAZON.COM"

Lots of accessories that were obviously years old with faded and torn retail packaging, etc., etc.

A "new" rack case that was full of actual dirt and debris...

There have been a few articles about Amazon's strange sourcing on Internet news sites.

BUT...there was some stuff that was brand new, first quality stuff that even smelled brand new, but it was rare.

100% of this was from Amazon.Com itself, not "associates."

Take your arguments somewhere else. Obviously everyone else in this thread is more than happy to take a chance at the prices being offered on occasion, and each of us is sure to report back any less than stellar experiences with deals posted in this thread. So your genital swinging contest about who's right and who's wrong is just unnecessary.

What a bunch of alarmist nonsense. I'm sure Amazon sells no more or less "problem" instruments than ANY large retailer. Personally, I've had nothing but good luck. Same for a number of my students and friends who buy from them.

Plus, when you consider their very liberal and fair return policy, it's simply not in their best business interest to send out crap products, then end up losing $$$ on returns.

Some people just want to see a conspiracy behind everything.

This^ I got an awesome G&L L-2000 USA 4 string cherryburst without a fingerprint on it for under 800.00
Then I got a Killer resonant Musicman Singray 5 for sub 1100.00 and that one is still with me today. Loved that one so much I bought a second one and the only problem was fretsprout. Returned it easily. We all must remember there are some of us perfectly willing to buy from Amazon or MF or GC and fool around with it gig it and send it back within the liberal return policies. Not saying you won't get a dumptruck but you could also get a gem for cheap! If it's a dumper return it.

I got 2 Schecter basses from Amazon and I liked 'em both. I landed a Riot 5er when they were new and that bass was utterly flawless from a fit, finish, and playability standpoint. The sound of the EMG HZ pickups was uninspiring but thats not Amazon's fault by ANY means.

Then I got a Model T a couple of years back and that bass is my #1 passive. There's some kind of flaw UNDER the finish but you cant really see or feel it so it doesnt bother me at all. It looks like something small got pressed pretty hard on the body wood prior to painting. But its not big OR noticeable so I dont care-the flaw is maybe 1/4" by 1" rectangle but you really have to be looking for it to find it. And when I'm playing it, you cant see it because of my right hand and arm so the audience wont know its there either.

And I'm hoping to buy bass #3 from them a little later this year. I want and Epi T-Bird, either a Pro or the new Classic. I have some $$ in Amazon gift certs plus some rebate $$ on my Discover card that'll cover a nice chunk of the price of either one.

It has absolutely, categorically, positively been true at least up until the fairly recent past to my personal knowledge. Not always so, but definitely sometimes. One bass manufacturer's rep has told persons here never to buy their basses off Amazon as only their rejects are sold there.

Rejects are also sold by the other major online sellers under misrepresented "used" or "scratch & dent" stock when in fact they are new QC fails.

100% sure of this. Take it to the bank.

Not always but definitely sometimes a rep told someone you don't know that this happens so you're absolutely positively taking that to the 100% bank.

Gotcha. Thanks for your input. :hmm:

I bought a Lightwave VL-4 from Amazon for $538. It was flawless. As others have mentioned, a retailer like Amazon with a liberal return policy will NOT sell rejects or seconds without identifying them as such. To claim they're a dumping ground for damaged gear is preposterous.

Okay, this debate has been beaten to death. I and many others have firsthand experience with their shady dealings, you can assume we're lying or whatever. Once again I will continue to order with them just because of their liberal return policy BUT it is a good thing that our experiences are out there on this thread so that people know what they may be getting into and don't get their hopes too high.

Glad your experience with the Lightwave was satisfactory.

There are many times that instruments go out as factory seconds, and the person purchasing it never even knows what it was that made it a factory second.

Not sure why, but I'm being thoroghly entertained by the way you guys are all getting yer panties in a bunch over this. How important is it all, really.

Bottom line for me here is that these deals aren't even really happening any more. Not like when the thread was started. If something awesome popped up I wouldn't hesitate to buy. And if there were any problems, I wouldn'thesitate to return.

Unsubbing from this thread now... the horse died about 200 post ago.

Tunaman, if you feel like creating a new thread that holds to the spirit of this Amazon deal thread, please do. Thanks for the great deals and alerts guys...
