Urinal Etiquette

Does it really bother anyone else when someone stands at the urinal next to you.

I went to the bathroom at work and there were literally 10 open urinals and this guy comes in and uses the one next to me.

Wouldn't it be proper etiquette to leave atleast one urinal in between.

Man, that's an unwritten rule right there. Anytime that happens to me, I pray that the genetlman next to me doesn't try to ..

1) strike up a conversation

or

2) tap my foot like that Senator dude a while back

The criterion of this etiquette also changes slightly if:

1) The urinals have dividers between them (the barrier provides more "security")

2) The urinal is one of those old amusement park trough-styles full of trash and urinal cakes (there is no privacy whatsoever with these)

...just sayin'

And don't get me started on some fool sitting down in the stall next to me when I'm in the middle of taking a deuce. Call me sensitive, but it's tough to relax enough to finish your business when there's some disgusting yo-yo being disgusting two feet away from you.

Speaking of fools - in college, I had this friend named Ernie. Ernie was this big, lanky 6 foot-something guy who was an absolute clown. This is the kind of guy who had a full size fridge in his room (keep in mind this is 1981), a big fat couch, and one of those "faux" fireplaces with the translucent plastic and flickering bulbs.

One day, on the way to the dorm restroom, he spotted me heading in. As I'm in the stall, I hear the door open, his big feet plodding over my way, and then sittng down PURPOSELY next to me. Within seconds, he starts up in what I can only describe as a "Barney" voice..."Oh,....oh.....(fart)....AHHHHHHHH! "Oh...oh!.... (fart).....AHHHHHH"!....plonk....etc.

All I can remember is I was bent over and laughing so hard I could not finish -until he left. That's something you don't forget.....

I always leave an open urinal when applicable regardless of dividers. I will say that in very casual situations (concert is one off the top of my head (ha!)) I do not always abide by the no talking rule.

The worst urinal etiquette breach Ive ever seen was at a baseball game when I was a teenager. This guy was standing in line at the urinal, and the line was really long, and it was really hot in there. This guy went to the sink, pulled his willy out, and started peeing in the sink. No kidding. And I dont recall anyone saying anything to him.

I kind of lost it one time, At the urinal some guy comes up to the urinal next to me and then proceeds to try and talk to me about Jesus.

While I'm not religious, I have no trouble with anyone else having whatever beliefs that they wish.

However, do NOT attempt to proselytize at the urinal. I will most likely respond negatively to say the least.

yes, the manlaw thread dictates spacing and speech etiquette whilst using the urinal.
If I recall correctly, there must be at least one open urinal in between and there will be absolutely no talking.

Last time I checked, this is truth.

In a situation like that, I'm likely to turn and face the fool and not stop what I am doing.

You sure it wasn't an "Okland Raiders" game?

Certainly SOMEONE has been in the Military.
They is NO such thing as any dividers or individual urinals. There is a long line of heads, you sit down, do your thing and go back. The urinals are along sink-like thing, & the sink is a round thing with a 'fountain" like water tap on top. It was like that at three different DS's.
You get very used to sitting down or standing next to someone or you get even better holding it in.

The fact that our government, i.e. military, condones DOESN'T make it right.
