USED Warwick Thumb NT 5

... and it is sa-weet!! Absolutely beautiful and plays like butta'. I don't know if you ran it through the Uber rig, but this is one angry sounding instrument. In fact, this is the first bass I have ever held that just begs to be slapped - delicious :bassist: My Corvette's are very, very nice, but this instrument is on another level on niceness, especially the neck - it just feels like it was made for my hands. Perhaps a bit cheesy, but I don't know how else to describe the smoothness and comfort. Hangs perfectly too.

About that extra Warwick that made the journey - that's hilarious! It's like the little brother that wanted to tag along. The perfect accessory for my desk at work :) For those that are curious, here is a (crappy) pic:

Just for fun, here are my "triplets":

Killer bass Greg - you have delivered once again!

Awesome, Brian! Glad ya dig it!

The Link Removed really brought that bass to life in a big way, and the [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] is really nice, too: quiet, smooth highs, deep lows, and perfect mids for my ear. Not to push more GAS on you, but Bardens would drop right into your 'vettes :hyper: Bardens are passive, though, so you'd also have to change the preamp.

Once you have a chance to play the Thumb in a band setting, I think you'll really be impressed by what you can do with a 4-band preamp vs a 2- or 3-band. So whether you go Audere, Aguilar, Bartolini, whatever... I'd stick with 4-band if you can. :bassist:

It might be fun to upgrade one bass at a time so you can A/B them afterward. Christmas is a comin'! :rollno:

Rave reviews tonight as well. Good crowd with a number of people that have heard us often, and many of them made unsolicited comments about the change in the bass sound. I heard "more present", "better thumb-thingys (slapping :))", "could hear you a lot more", "full sound", and my personal favorite, "dude - those pickups look bada&&". A bit fumble-fingered with the new instrument for the first couple of songs performing at full speed, but things settled in nicely after that. Incredibly comfortable to wear. Honestly, even though it's only been a couple of days, my Corvettes have started to feel a little bit "clumsy" in comparison. Hard to explain, but this bass really just feels perfectly natural in my hands.

Sweet!! Any chance you're recording the show? I'd love to hear what you can make that thing do :)

No, we do not currently have that capability (not that it's hard... just lazy I guess :)) However, the video camera we use actually picks up sound very well, so it will be interesting to hear when we watch it. I've always been interested in getting some live stuff tracked, but the gear funds always seem to go towards other things... like basses :ninja:.

Cool, nice feedback - that must make ya feel good!

I got similar comments when I first switched to that bass from my Alembic Europa. The Thumb has the same thing Roscoes have - prominent mids! My Alembic sounded great by itself, but I never set it to cut well (I was young and ignorant). I imagine I could make it cut now if I still had it (the Alembic pre was REALLY flexible), but that's water under the bridge :bawl:

Interestingly enough, it gets along a lot better with my Mesa than with my GBE 1200. Maybe it's the very mild mid-scoop inherent to the Fathom's voicing, but the sound is just a lot smoother and more appealing. My 'Vettes sounded equally killer (while still slightly different) through either... maybe the angry Thumb paired with the aggressive Genz is like 'roid rage :)

Done with everything but the mastering on the first batch of studio tracks using the Thumb and holy geez it's sick. Greg, you definitely know how to pick the hardware... the Barden/Audere preamp combination is killer! Once my laptop is functional again I should be able to link the tracks.

Alrighty - let's see if these work. They're still a bit quiet as we have to finish the CD before mastering, but the mix is essentially complete.

Signal chain was Thumb --> Mesa Fathom --> mic'd Uber 410 --> Distressor Compressor (first compressor I've actually liked) --> board. There was also a DI channel run through the same chain, with the sound mix being ~ 80% mic, 20% DI.

Overall, I'm pretty much thrilled with this sound. I did a couple of tracks from an earlier session with my Corvette, and while it sounded good the Thumb has a lot more bite, definition, and voice to it while still providing an excellent "cushion" sound between the guitar and drums. Love it :)

Quick extra: we shot a video today for Track 1, and man this bass is dead sexy on film... those Bardens against that bubinga are KILLER!
