USPS is not exactly inspiring confidence these days..

This is the thread. USPS is not supposed to be a profit.

USPS is supposed be a social service.

The fact that people living in the sticks don't have to fork over to UPS and FEDEX to get letters and mail is a form of social service.

We have that same issue. I live on Kings Road, and have a texting contact with the folks at the same address on Kings Crossing. They need to rename one of those streets or something.

The delivery drivers have also been erratic, leaving packages in several different places on the property. The worst is USPS; the drivers can't seem to figure out how a secure mailbox works. You put the item in the hopper, it goes down into the secure area. You know, JUST LIKE A USPS MAILBOX.

The worst was when I tried to file a delivery intercept for a bass amp head coming through USPS; I wanted it held at the post office. The item arrived the next day at the post office then went "out for delivery" all day without actually being delivered. On day three, I went to the post office to ask about the item and it was "out for delivery" again. I went straight home and the delivery came about an hour later.

UPS has eliminated "hold at depot" which I have used many times in the past. I guess it's a coronavirus thing.

Anyway, nothing has been lost yet and at worst it's just an inconvenience.

When the user's scanner hits the bar code on the piece it is supposed to announce hold it. At that point he is normally at the delivery point ready to get rid of it, or heading back to his vehicle hitting the delivered buttons and by nature is not going to spend more time and potentially keep an overloaded truck with a big piece in the way to hinder the deliver other pieces.

Now I may have seen two intercept orders in the few years we had scanners with that ability and nobody warned us that it was a ability we had the first time a scanner told me to hold it.

No. You have completely missed the point I was trying to make.

My point is that if you’re looking for top-quality service, don’t expect to pay bottom-feeder prices. That’s not how the world works.

I've had so many issues within the past few months from the USPS. I've had no issues at all from FedEx and Amazon and one big issue with UPS leaving my brand new bass on the curb; which I got attacked for by some people on here (how dare I expect a delivery guy to ring my doorbell and get a signature for my new bass rather than leaving it on the curb!).
I had an amp delivered on Monday...to another house in a different neighborhood. It was sent as signature required. I got extremely lucky in that the guy who received my amp looked me up on social media, found me and sent a message "hey I have a package for you." So I went to his house to get it. I asked him if he signed for it..."nope. They left it on my porch." Before he messaged me, I opened a case at the USPS website. That was Monday, I didn't hear from the USPS again until today. I got an email from them wanting to know how they did in handling my case. My reply..."You didn't handle ****! You did NOTHING to solve the problem you created!"

I'm at the point, I don't use the USPS unless I absolutely have to. It's the epitome of a poorly run government institution. I think it's a perfect example of why so many people don't want government running things.

To get a little back on track, I'm also having a really weird experience with the USPS right now.

Small package shipped FedEx "smartpost" end of July. That's where FedEx takes it to their hub in your area, then hands it off to USPS. Arrived at my local FedEx location 7/30. USPS said it hit my local post office on 8/4, which is already ridiculously slow. Then, later on 8/4, tracking says it went AWAY from my local post office... to Houston proper. And now 8/7 it says the package just arrived... in Dallas. ***?

I really want to know how it went from my local post office BACK to the city, and now to another city 250 miles away. FFS...

I had a bass that took 11 days instead of 3 as usual to travel from Memphis, TN to Leander, TX sent Priority. Tracking was useless and both the seller and I filed several Requests for Service. Good fortune did smile and the bass arrived unharmed only to drive me crazy trying to reside the pickups, but that is another story.

Of course by the rules no picture no bass....FB_IMG_1595020830654.jpg

Well we are supposed to talk to the recipient and sign for them. But since things are being signed for individual carriers will cheat as we always fighting time. If it came down to a claim the union's defense would be that the honest neighbor said leave it through his intercom or ring doorbell

The how did we do computer generated questions can be answered honestly but given the crisis standing even going beyond the 3percent error rate is not going to raise internal eyebrows

I just had USPS ship me a bass from WA to El Paso TX and it was supposed to take 4 days. Made it in 3. Bass before that from Chicago area in 4 days. I've got no complaints with them. UPS and FedEx however has been less than stellar.

Earlier this year they lost & never found, a 2007 Lakland DJ4 in black I sold to a guy.
The box was approx. 50"x18"x9". How do you lose that.
Through a lot of work I did get reimbursed.

I've had a tracking label fall off a package and end up on another package. That created an interesting trail.

I'm having no issues with the Postal Service, it's UPS that is KILLING me.

Tried three times to order a red Squier Contemporary Jazz bass (SC version no humbuckers). Amazon/Guitar Center. I've ordered over a dozen instruments from GC and no problems with shipping ever.

1st delivery, Amazon: factory "Squier" box torn clear in half, neck visible with gouges. I was home, refused shipment.
2nd delivery, Guitar Center: bass never shows, eventually shows up in UPS as "damaged, returned to sender"
3rd delivery, Guitar Center: Factory box shows up with bottom CLEARLY opened (staples pulled out through cardboard) and hanging open. I can see the strap pin, so thankfully there was still a bass in there! Problem is, that strap pin is hanging out of the box by about six inches. Pull bass, no visible damage, but...take it out to GC and return as shipping damaged. I don't know what kind of impact that thing took and I'm not going to risk it.

I gave up. I'm just not supposed to have that bass.

But my post office guy, he is doing a great job. No complaints.

The master CD for our recording was mailed to me via USPS priority mail, from a city about 10 miles away. It was sent to a distribution center about 25 miles away the next day, then updated it would be delivered to me that evening by 8pm. Well, 8pm came and went. My package sat in the distribution ceter for another 10 days before it finally arrived. Smh.

Bought neck on eBay.
Priority mail insured.
Received by USPS in TX 7/20
Leaves TX 7/22.

Nothing about location / next facillity just in transit, arriving late.
7/31 in SF, 8/1 arrives in Sacramento .
8/2 leaves Sac at 11:30 pm.
8/2 leaves Sac at 1145 pm
8/2 leaves sac St 145 am
8/6 in transit , arriving late.
8/7 still not here.

I don't know what's going on.
I've had a few first class mail packages come cross country AND come in early although they were scheduled for delivery much later!

But a month ago I had ordered a package priority mail from Chicago.
Took a full TWO WEEKS to travel FORTY MILES to me.
Plus it went 101 miles in the wrong direction!

The old Pony Express could have gotten it delivered faster!
