Valeton Dapper

Hi,
I don't use effects alot but was looking at the Valeton Dapper. The bass amp feature seems useful as presume I could tweek my sound as going pre amp in to the PA. I could use the chorus for the start of one song. The one thing I can't find from YouTube reviews is the dirt fuzz I'm looking for. It is for playing Starlight by Muse does anyone know if I would be able to get near this sound with the Valeton. I currently have the big muff and a cheap phaser pedal just trying to carry less and easier set up.

I no longer have the Dapper Bass, but the effect I think you’re talking about is an EHX Bass Balls clone. So if the sound you’re looking for is a fuzzed envelope filter, it’s quite good. I liked it a lot. The chorus is weird: it’s one knob and quite thin. It controls the depth IIRC. I was not very impressed with it, but I also didn’t use it much.
The octaver is one down + 2 down, which I’ve never understood for bass. It’s fine.
I liked the preamp, but I have no idea what it’s based on: maybe a VT? I was expecting another BDDI clone when I got it, but it has a midrange knob so who knows?
You’ll want to leave the compressor on.
You could put the Big Muff in the effects loop, which is a pretty nice feature for the price point.
That said, the M-VAVE Tank-B looks like a better- and cheaper- version of the Dapper Bass.

This is not the Fuzz you're looking for if you're trying to mimic "Muse - Starlight". Valeton Dapper Bass Dirty Q section is an EHX Bassballs copy. Great for "Red Hot Chili Peppers - Sir Psycho Sexy", though.

I bought a Valeton Dapper bass multi effect a few days ago on Amazon on a whim. I’ve been trying out all my basses (P, MM, EUB, U-bass, upright, and cello) through this unit and it sounds really good! The preamp eq is really musical and warm sounding. The compressor is somewhat useable if you watch how strong your input signal is. The octaver sound is pretty meaty for an old school analog kind of vibe with typical tracking performance. The chorus and envelope follower are pretty limited but functional. The tuner works ok.

I’m really surprised at this pedal’s ability to improve the tone of my instruments. I am mostly a meat and potatoes type of player on gigs. I want the instrument to sound full and clear through the amp or in ear monitors. The Valeton allows me to quickly dial up a good tone, mute while I tune, and throw in some decent effectted sounds sparingly when needed. And it fits in my gig bag with tons of room to spare.

I currently own a Line 6 helix stomp and various pedals. I have also owned the Aguilar tonehammer, Tech 21, EBS preamps as well. They are all great in one way or another, but if you are looking for a cheap and highly functional gigging in the trenches multi effect unit the Dapper is a hell of a deal.
