Vapid Super Bowl Performance

I did not watch since we took a quick trip to the store but good for The Weekend.. he got a nice gig during this horrible time and paid some dancers as well.
I know nothing about his music but he must be a significant artist to be hired for such a desirable experience.

Im in the Google provided average NFL fan age range and even though Ive heard of the Weekend (liked his whatever "lights" song better when it was "Take On Me") I think the halftime shows stink for the most part. I was just saying this to someone yesterday about how they dont have the artists that most NFL fans would like to see, its more for the media and maybe people in the players age range. I dont know.

Normally I keep my opinions on artists to myself, but I'll just say a quick comparison of the aforementioned artist's lyrics compared to this Weekend person is quite revealing. Why is it so hard to make a compelling song without being overtly vulgar in today's day and age? Not that artist's like the Stones didn't have some darker/cruder lyrics from time to time, but at least they were more witty and subtle. I'm in my early 20s too so it's not even an age thing for me. I just flat out don't get it; nor would I want to.

Counterpoint: As far as the Stones goes, didn't Mick once sing about not being able to "**** all night" because he didn't "have enough jam"? And Shakespeare was dropping barely-subtle innuendo and hard c-bombs in his plays hundreds of years ago, so "crudeness" isn't even close to a modern phenomenon.

Creators (at least the smart ones anyway) who aren't writing about the purely fantastical, write what they know and what they experience. If the world one lives in is crude or crass (and life is frequently DISGUSTING), that is going to come out and be reflected in the creation.

Also, culture changes... Ward and June cleaver couldn't share a bed. Now people can bone-down on prime time without a lot of people batting an eye. Our collective tolerance changed and likely will again. It's not really a thing one "gets" as much as it just "is".

Half Time Show made my Top Five best since they switched from marching bands to mainstream pop/rock artists. Right up there with Prince, McCartney, and Bruno. The Weeknd got to use practically the whole stadium and field (thanks to COVID precautions) as his own personal performance art venue. And the music was awesome, even if some was pre-recorded. I don't think the guy was lip-syncing, so there's that. Major talent in my book, he'll see an uptick in DL's, concert tix, merch sales, etc. and a broader audience from this. Considering the lame-o commercials this time around and I was actually hoping for the game to go into endless overtimes until both teams collapsed on the field to a draw, the Half Time Show was the best part of the game. Whatever the young folks see in this artist, this Boomer gets it.

I watched the first half, skipped halftime because....uh, yeah....and made some wings instead (yes, I am from Buffalo, and yes they were on point), then turned off halfway through 3rd when it became apparent Father Time was going to do his thing again for yet another time. Most boring HOF quarterback ever. Because, again, I am from Buffalo and have suffered enough humiliation at the hands of Tom Brady to last a lifetime, so no thanks.

I actually wanted the Chiefs to win, so....the game totally sucked! And as far as the halftime thing, I never heard of him, didn't recognize any of the tunes, and consequently, turned the whole thing off. I kid you not...

Ok. I'm gonna say it. Who the Hell is the Weekend? ......I won't outright say it sucked.
 :roflmao:

What did you think?
i like the weekend --- i just didn't care for the game's entertainment segments, much. the halftime show wasn't as cool as some previous years. not all of them have been the G.O.A.T., anyway, i.e., only a few have been 'memorable' for me.

i miss prince.

Ok... this is the problem. What is the average age of Super Bowl viewers? And do they pic a performer or performers that appeals to that age group?

Here is what Google says: "47
The median age of the Super Bowl viewer in 2019 was 47 (below the primetime TV audience) and median income was $77,000 (above the primetime TV audience). According to Tunity Analytics, Super Bowl LIII in 2019 averaged 23.7 million viewers watching the game outside the home.Jan 27, 2020"

Ok, does this "Weekend" person have fans or even appeals to people in that age group????????
My guess is very few.

That's why the Superbowl planners keep bombing out on half time in my opinion.

That age group isn’t sitting there for the halftime though, lol. everybody in that age group is gettin food and beer and making bathroom runs at half tim. The question should be what’s the demographic of people who actually sit through the half time show.

but if you do sit through the half time show expecting a quality musical performance, that’s a fault on the viewer, not the show ;)

Median isn't average, though, is it?
