Vegetarian Club Anyone?

Im a vegetarian by proxy if that counts?

I try and eat at least two herbivores a day :)

And regardless of your diet, you're still omnivorous :p

omnivore
An animal whose normal diet includes both plants and animals.

herbivore
any animal that feeds chiefly on grass and other plants

Though i see what you're getting at, technically we're herbivores. Just because we are born capable of being omnivorous doesn't make us omnivorous. It's our actions that define us.

And Just because what we eat isn't always leafy or appear to be from the earth, it has to be from the earth if it's not from an animal.

No meat for me! Can I have a number?

Still new to it...stopped a few months ago. I eat fish and dairy though. They're next to go, but that will take some work. I watched one of those vids about where our food comes from, showed the slaughterhouse, etc., that was it for me...

I'm curious what everyone is eating tomorrow for the holiday...

maybe I'll start a seperate thread...

i got a meal from a local Vegan restaurant that i've got in the fridge right now. I haven't opened it up but i'm assuming it's going to be something like tofurky , and mashed potatoes , etc. etc.

All vegan, and ALL DELICIOUS. mmmmmm

About five years ago I shifted my diet to mostly veggies and some fruit with limited amounts of poultry and fish. I'm not interested in going totally vegetarian, but I accept the wisdom of eating a low-fat, non-mammal diet. Just this morning, I heard a little story on NPR that said I was among those who call themselves "flexitarians". I didn't know there was a name for it.

Not looking for a number, but I like the idea of The Vegetarian Club.

And seriously, please resist the temptation to post here just to make the obligatory PETA jokes. :rollno:

How can you have a Vegetarian Club?
A Club contains turkey and bacon.

My wife is vegetarian and has been as long as I've known her (37 years).
She can have my number ––*seeing as I don't do much of that no more either.

Im not a vegitarian and I dont expect a number though I have been eating a mostly vegitarian diet for the past year. I've also tried vegan diets here and there for fun but never anything serious.

I dont think most people enjoy killing something to eat even if they enjoy the sport of the hunt, but thats not even the core of it for me.

I feel healthier when I eat veg. Eating meat usually makes me feel sluggish and weighed down. Low on energy etc...

I loves me some burgers and my grandmothers lamb and turkey this weekend were insanely awesome, but now that Im home again, Im stoked to be eating a bowl of lentils and rice.

Cool club.

that's awesome. And i agree with you on the 'feeling sluggish and weighed down' bit. I never feel like i've got any extra weight on me after i eat anymore.

cool things though, people with an open mind are an asset to this world.

I might as well join, since I must be a senior vegetarian here on TB. I last ate meat in June of 1968. I was in transition then, having already made the decision to quit it. However, I was hungry after a midsummer gig, and the only food available was grilled pork chops. So I had one. After that, never.

Sorry, I think I've got that beat. I'm 50 years old and am a 3rd generation Vegetarian. Never eaten meat in my life. I tried once, (turkey) and it tasted fine, just couldnt make myself swallow it.

As an aside, I'm also 6' tall and weigh 200lbs and have a pretty good tan. And my father is even bigger than me (6'2", 240). I also am mistaken for being in my late 30's most of the time. So, if I could have a number please................

Alright Vegwads..... uhh I mean, hey guys! :hiding:

In a nutshell, the new girlfriend doesn't eat meat (she will eat fish/seafood/shellfish though) and being practically carnivore, I'm stuck for ideas for dinner. The way I learned to cook, most meals are centred around meat as the main ingredient, or at the very least, meat constitutes a major part of the flavour.

So, what could I cook that would be a vegetarian dish that not only she will like, but won't leave me felling like something was missing? Mind you I do eat vegetarian from time to time, but it's usually sushi, and I'm trying to mix it up here. Big, bold flavours are always a plus.

Edumacate me :help:

There are a lot of meat substitutes out there that are pretty tasty. And even you carnivores think so. Check out any of the fake carrion by Loma Linda or Worthington-I grew up eating Linkettes and Frichik. Not to mention Scallops, Tender Bits, Vegeburger, Choplets, Dinner Cuts, and Big Franks. Lots of Vegetable protien-your body doesnt process animal protien too well, hense the sluggish feeling when you eat a lot of meat. A lot of people dont know that the human body was never designed to process animal products, or that doing so has a deterious effect on the body. It can when necessary, but it has to work much harder to do so.
