Vegetarian Club Anyone?

I do feel like somebody has done this before, but I can't remember who, and this thread seems to have a positive vibe, (unlike many past discussions on this topic).

Anyway, I'm vegan, (about 15 years now), and am well known for it down in the DB section of the TB world.

Im a type of vegetarian.... I dont eat pork, red meat, chicken, or animal by products. Just fish (with scales), fruits, and veggies. Its umm a religious thing but Im not jewish but i follow most of the religions dietary law.
sorry no funny story, but i do have a sticker on a bass case that says "DID YOUR LUNCH HAVE A FACE?" with a big stripped cow head on it. Got some thats sick comments from that one;)..........

#20. nice sticker, any idea where i can get this kind of stuff?

My girlfriend's a vegetarian. Which more or less makes me a vegetarian, but I sure love the taste of a good burger.

confused a bit. do you still eat meat, or have you been converted?

hey, if youre going to be giving numbers out to people who aren't vegetarians, you can give my number to someone else.

I seem to recall a certain quote by a certain grease-paint-mustachioed comedian about clubs...

i didn't think that including pescatarians to the club would be that detrimental. or cause much conflict :hmm:

ifff you want i can label everyone in the club :eyebrow:

ex: Pescatarian, Vegan, etc....

I used to get to sample a lot of vegetarian food when I worked in a Hotel. Man, do you guys get the short end of the stick sometimes! I always hated dealing vegetarians who made excessive demands but man, some of the slop that was put on their plates when they were eating there! I'm not surprised they complained!

well look, im not going to quibble about the usage of the word (which has been in use for around 150 years), but if you are eating animals (even ones that arent cute or furry) , you're not a vegetarian. simple as that.

my personal politics bring me to not eat any animal (whether cute or furry or ugly and scaly) either, but i'm not about to exclude people from this due to being 'pescatarian'. i'll label them as i guess it may be necessariy, and if you really want to relinquish ur # it's up to you.

As someone who eats veg food by proxy what do you think of the faux meat stuff? Does a fake hamburger taste anything like a real hamburger to you?

a late response to your query.... some of the fake bacon and sausage taste pretty close to the real thing - tofurky italian "sausage" and "brats" (or maybe it's "kielbasa"), as well as morningstar farms stuff. further question: does it turn a veg off if it's **too** close? there's such a range of reasons for people being veg - animal lovers might be turned off, but something that mimics meat so closely might be welcome by people who do it for health reasons .

as for people being here who may not be totally veg, why can't people hang out just to chat and learn? after 20 years of being vegetarian, i became vegan about 10 years ago after some really great discussions in vegetarian online chatrooms.

one more thing - sorry i forgot to hand out earplugs to y'all earlier - my band played tonite and i sang backup harmony on a couple songs....

But I wonder if you and I aren't in the same boat corrynthia. I asked because it's been so long since I had actual meat that my memory of what it tastes like might be fading. I have to wonder if what fake meat we think tastes like the real thing an actual meat eater wouldn't agree.

It all relative. If you grew up eating veggie burgers, then ate a cowburger, you'd probably think it was gross.

Honestly, it has been so long since I've eaten a hamburger I probably don't remember exactly what it tastes like. I enjoy veggie burgers (the good ones, they are not all the same), so there is no sense of deprivation or loss.

I don't wear animal products any more but this I decided recently. Its been 8 months or so.Now its winter and I'm stuct with my Chuck Taylors in this cold, rainy weather and its a matter of time I get sick due to wet shoes.I used to wear leather boots almost all my life.:hmm:

Buying shoes online is a bad idea IMO,can you direct me towards well known shoe makes who makes water proof non-leather shoes. It doesnt even have to be 100% w-p.
If I can't find somethign soon I'll go with the Converses that are fur lined (is that the word?,also I'm sure it is artifical fur not animal fur),I don't know if these are w-p though.

Any advices club?:help:
I also do not wear animals.

Shoes can be a bit tough. I ordered a pair of non-leather doc martin ankle boots directly from the UK about 8 years ago and they are still in fairly good shape... though I certainly do not wear them everyday.

I primarily wear crocs. They have quite a wide variety available these days. You might want to check out crocs.com.

They also have lots of nonleather shoes at payless, but often those are a bit on the junky side.

If you want running shoes what I do is go to a large mall with multiple shoe stores. I then check into the stores and write down the brand & MODEL of each shoe that I like. I ask the sales dude, but most of the time he has no idea and if he says they are nonleather I still double-check. I hit the internet and verify that the shoes are indeed nonleather. Often manufacturers list the materials used in their shoes.

Its a hassle, but unless you buy online, its the way to go. I'm glad I only buy shoes once in a very long while. Primarily I just wear crocs unless its raining heavily or I need athletic shoes.

Good luck!

My guess is that meat-eaters will tell you that veg-meat tastes nothing like the real thing. I haven't had meat since summer '96 so I have no clue personally.
