VFE Woodchipper

So I've been using my wood chipper for a while now and every time I use it it never ceases to amaze. It's so clear and articulate yet still so nasty and cutting. We're working on a new song and the WC is going to be my main dirt in it. I tried the Black Russian, OCD and BB and the WC suites the song so well. It's a fast bass line and I need that clear articulation with the nasty fuzz there too and the WC hits
This in spades.

I am having a difficult settling on a great setting. I had something very cool but my kids played with it and I need to dial it back in. Any of you have favourite settings on this thing?

Well with mine, I keep both switched flipped to the right. It's probably boosted treble and bass. Then I keep the fuzz around 3 o'clock, level around 1 o'clock and the blend around 10 maybe. The bottom is usually around 8 or 9 o'clock for me. I try not to let that bottom over power the fuzz. That's key for me.

Ah, I can't believe this pedal is in my house but I have to wait another two weeks to try it...

I also add that that song were working on right now, its like a mix between Tool and Muse. Honestly its a tad dated feeling but what we do with the rest of the song it makes it work. Thats just one of the things of love so much about music and writing, is that you can write something that may sound dated or generic and depending on what/how you compose the rest of it, it can really turn into a totally different feel and song. It def has a Hysteria feel to it. And the WC is the perfect fuzz for the job.

Thanks for the settings guys, that is where I was going. I think I have it dialled it back to what I had before. Not, to dial a few preamps back to what I like. I don't know what happened with my kids, but they really seem to have had fun with my pedalboard at some point yesterday :)

What you did there, I see it.

It's okay. Post-Christmas is going to be fun. I'm going to have a somewhat major revamp, but to a stable position that will be awaiting my two major GAS points of 2015---the Future Impact and Source Audio Reflex.

I heard that in the demo here, and I'm not a huge fan of that sound either. However, the compressed/gated qualities I really like, I imagine I will usually have clean at a minimum, bottom as necessary, and adjust from there.

Thanks for the video. I really don't like the blend, way too much "2 different bass channels at the same time" for me, just like you say FretNoMore :( I had great hopes about it due to the 2-band EQ + bottom control, but I think I'll stick to my Diabolik + dedicated EQ for now. Waiting to know what you think Adam!

I managed to sneak away for maybe a half an hour. Initial reactions:

(1) There are a lot of sounds in the pedal. The gain seems to interact with the fuzz volume in an odd way, I think that's a big part of it (I could be wrong about this, that was just my initial impression).
(2) Some of those sounds are really great, others not so much.
(3) There is almost a dip and swell sound at high gain, kind of envelope-y as well. I thought I had everything else out of my chain to make sure this was not the problem. Again, I'll have to explore it some more.
(4) You can definitely get the "two sounds in parallel" thing, which I don't care for, but you definitely can avoid that as well. Mostly I turned the "Clean" all the way down. Then I added just a little "Bottom" and did most of my tonal changes from the EQ. This has plenty of low end. In general, as long as I have plenty of low end, a clean blend is not absolutely necessary for my pedals.
(5) Favorite setting so far---"Clean" fully CCW, "Gain" at noon, "Bottom" at 10:00, "Bass" at 1:00, "Treble" fully CW, "Fuzz" at 2:30. This was significantly louder than unity, so I will probably need to adjust.
(6) It did seem to give a different flavor of fuzz than my other new pedal for the day, the OFD. I'm not sure how to describe it, but the texture of the fuzz sounds "wet" to me. Still very splattery and aggressive but not just dry and buzzing, if that makes sense. So that's nice!

I will have to post a pic and more thoughts eventually.
