If the bass line in that song propels the song to greater heights, you've tapped into a vein of gold; and sadly, that seems to be a dying art...

I disagree about the dying art thing...Jamiroquai is prime example of how basslines should (and do) propel the song....

when you look at Victor's work with the Flecktones...it's Bela's fantastic banjo playing that actually moves the music...the other guys (including victor) stand in awesome support...80% of the time...

I hate to burst your bubble but I am credited on Cd's and I have played bass on tracks that have been used in major commercials etc.,I have also been a ghost bassist on recordings.I lead my own groups and I have the pleasure of choosing the gigs that I want,if I don't want to do a gig I want.I have one CD out as a leader and I have a new one coming out soon that has Bernard Purdie as my rhythm mate.



I think you should ask some of the heavy weights in the bass world about me and do your home work before you attempt to discredit someone.

and I make my living playing bass and since I don't drive a lot of times when I'm on talk bass I'm doing so from a plane or car from any where in the world thanks to wireless Internet.

Oh man, Vic is so good, I don't think he's even human. He's like some kind of bass playing alien freak, but nobody has the technical skills of Jeff Berlin, and so far, I haven't heard any of Vic's compositions that stir the emotions like Jaco's did.
I'd like to see Vic reinvent himself and possibly explore some (for him) new musical directions, which I'm sure he eventually will. The slapping, popping and thumping (for me) gets a bit tedious after a short while.

You need to pick up the album "Yin Yang" then. That's the one Carter Beauford and Coffin and Bela and Reggie, etc.. all guest on. That's the one his "Making Music" video is based on, the tracking of it I mean.

I can only listen to "A Show Of Hands" for a little while before needing the rest of "The Body" behind his playing.

And in his context, I'm not sure why people try and bash Flea so much? For rock music, who else has done more in the last 10-15 years? His lines are absolutely perfect for the Pepper's.
And if you get a good set of headphones and actually LISTEN to his lines and tone on "Stadium Arcadium", holy hell- that is some bassmanship right there!

I've heard Jauqo play several times over the last 10 yrs., and Yes, he can Play. 'Seen him doing bass demos at NAMM Shows for endorsements, etc. He's got credits.

+1 Jauqo's Band was awesome at the Chicago Talkbass CTG at Lakland Bass Studio. For all you folks that keep dissing any other bassist, please show us how to do it right. Talk is cheap, criticizing is cheaper, learning from others creates value, respecting other bassist no matter what their level of experience makes you a true MUSICIAN and worthy of respect.

I've said it before and I'll say it again.

Victor Wooten is one of the most amazing musicians I've ever had the privilege of playing with and an even more amazing person. I've never heard anyone who has met him say a single bad thing about him.

Also, I just have to say that I don't get why some people are putting so much hate out there just because someone can make a living doing what that someone enjoys doing.

The people who are the most respectful and positive musicians out there, and on this board, are often the people who are out there playing the most. They simply have nothing to prove.
